Cleaning advice with OEM 19 wheels.
Hi as the title says I have taken on a 2008 AUC I have now cleaned it for the first time and noticed the face of the wheels are tarnished.
I have tried using Auto sol metal polish and its made them very shiny but the tarnish remains also their are mini scratches/swirls which help spoil their appearance. Can anyone advise me on how to remove this? Many thanks |

What polish/cutting compound would you recommend? I used the autosol stuff from halfords (had all good reviews) spent ages just on one bit and as I said shiny but patchy.

I'd be very surprised if they don't have some sort of clear coat, as they're machined finished alloy, they would discolour very quickly.

The polished 19s should have a lacquered finish unless someone has re machined them without re lacquering. Are you getting a black deposit on the polishing rag? |

OEM wheels do not come from the factory without a protective finish and any type of metal polish on that finish will destroy it.

As I said the car was a AUC so it seem the last owner some how removed the lacquer (I might have stupid moments but I'm not completely thick!!) This does however explain why they were so tarnished.
Do you reckon I have any come back with the dealer? |

If it's just a case of repolishing the machined finish, how about getting a mobile wheel refurber to you home. The good ones will have an ultra violet curing oven to set the lacquer hard after polishing.

If you do this, get a can of clear plastic primer. When used as the base coat the lacquer will last for years
