nothing against ferrari or mclaren since you can see from the first 3 races that two of these constructors/drivers are duking it out. I just like bmw coz i drive one and they seem to be the underdog and I like to see an underdog becomes the spoiler as you said for yourself. makes it more fun for me to watch.

Traction control banned for 2008!!!

http://www.ferrarifaqs.com/traction-...-for-2008.html

For those who think this year is going to be an exciting F1 season, next year should be a stunner. The FIA has confirmed that traction control will not be allowed in 2008. With traction control about to be banned from F1, Formula One Drivers are split on the decision. Most have said they support the move, but most racers will usually say they prefer fewer electronic aids getting in the way of pure mechanical feel and control of the vehicle.

At this level of performance, however, the drivers often like to talk a good game and downplay the significance of the devices. It’s more driver skill, they’ll tell you. But for some of today’s drivers, electronics have been fitted to every car they have raced at this level of competition. The aids themselves have been used since 2001.

Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen thinks “It’s going to be more fun, although for sure it’s going to make it more difficult to drive over the race distance, so it’s not going to always be fun.” Renault’s Giancarlo Fisichella seemed to echo those sentiments, saying “It’s good to make it more difficult for the drivers.”

Others, like David Coulthard, however, say we’ll only see a difference in wet races: “I think in dry conditions, the driver has an in-built traction control system and that won’t change.” Nico Rosberg, of Williams, basically said that traction control is given far too much credit: “I think you still need to control (the car) yourself with the foot occasionally,” he said, “so it is not going to make a huge difference.”

We probably won’t learn the truth until testing for next season begins. In the meantime we’re sure to hear stories like those about Super Auguri, that tell us some teams have been without traction control already. Even if it’s only in the rain, we hope it makes enough of a difference to justify the change, and add even more excitement to the show.

Mornin'
It's all about McLaren and Ferrari. The others will be the spoilers.

It should be interesting to see how things have improved in the favor of Ferrari or McLaren over the past few weeks of work. Qualifying will show us where things really are. After I get a chance to watch practice closely I will give my opinions, but for now, I'm just glad to be back to racing!

Have a great day, all!

Hey F1, what do you think about this: The first F1 Street Night Race?

Singapore has won the right to host a Formula One Grand Prix next year, an official said Friday.

The race will be held either in September or early October on a street circuit around the downtown Marina Bay district, Minister of State for Trade and Industry S. Iswaran told a news briefing.

Iswaran said it could "potentially" be the world's first night race, but organisers are still looking at safety issues.

"Safety is of paramount importance to all of us. Therefore we will proceed with a night race only if the safety and operational requirements of all parties... are fully met," he said.

"If not we will revert to a day race."

Formula One head Bernie Ecclestone had earlier met property tycoon Ong Beng Seng to discuss the possibility of holding the race in the Republic.

Singapore is keen to host an F1 race and the government had given its blessing to the negotiations between Mr Ong and Mr Ecclestone.

However financial and logistical hurdles have recently slowed progress on a deal.

The government said it was "willing to support such a venture up to a level commensurate with the broader benefits to the economy".

The cost of hosting a race is estimated to be US$70 million.

Aside from the costs, the task of working out logistics, particularly maximising public safety and minimising disruptions to local businesses in the area earmarked for the race, was also proving to be a challenge.

A senior member of Mr Ong's team has previously said a decision needed to be made by April this year if they were to be ready for a 2008 race. - CNA

I would be all over that. Certainly safety is a concern, but lighting is a practical reality these days, to the point of being able to create daylight in fact. I see it as a forgone conclusion at this point. It's just one more way to bring more interest and fans to the sport, not to mention it would just be cool!:rocks:

Yeah night race would be cool but as you said, lighting is a factor. I have never seen f1 cars with headlights. Without light, it is a safety issue coz at those speed in the dark, it is too deadly.

back to reality, man, I am hoping that the long break gave these teams a chance to do more testing and modification. We will see which teams take advantage of this long break during the qualifying.

Go bmw (the spoiler).

They might be slow this week. Couldn't get a good idea from practice. I guess tomorrow morning should be a bit more telling.

I know, looks like both teams have kept their edge. Alonso must be so pissed that Massa took his home GP. HA!

It's gonna be a good race! I probably won't get to watch it till tonight. Talk to you guys then.

Its true what they say...luck is a big part of it all

What an eventful race...it wasn't boring I can tell you that

Alonso made a rather desperate move in the beginning, eager to perform for his home crowd. Its reminiscent of his earlier days in F1, he's actually been calmer and cooler recently.

Massa is going from strength to strength proving maybe to be a better investment for Ferrari then Raikonnen. I am sure he's benefited alot from his test driver days at Ferrari and also closer ties with the team.

Hamilton is still the driver to watch.

Its great for Sato and Super Aguri but Davild Coulthard, Kubica and even Rosberg performed well this weekend.

And what's up with the pit teams...too much sangria the night before or what?

On to the next stop....

a lot of the car failures that occur and people assume are random and have nothing to do with the driver, are usually cause by the driver. ESPECIALLY gearbox failures, these are not random occurances but the driver error

My pick is McClaren 1st with BMW and Ferrari slugging it out for 2nd. BMW Sauber is off to a good start but I think they will really come into their own around the USGP and Montreal next month.

As for Drivers championship it will be close but I think Massa will pull it out (not Kimi)
