I am impressed! I have wetsanded aftermarket paint/factory paint to blend them together several times, but never a factory paint job with the level of orange peel the E92s have. A family member just got a new Le-Mans Blue 335i M sport I'd like to wetsand, but I want to be cautious.

So I have a few questions if you don't mind:

- Would you do it again (or have you on your new M3?)
- How low did you have to go (grit wise) to flatten the orange peel?
- Did you have any cloudiness or other issues with your old M3 due to the wet sand?
- What level of polish/pad would you recommend on a PC dual orbital to remove the tracers and sand marks from the paint? I have Surbuf, yellow LC foam, wool, and all types of polish and compounds.

Thanks!

1. I would do it again, but only if I had enough spare time. It's a huge commitment, probably around 150+ hours of work. Since I've had my MCB M3, I haven't had the time to do it, but I would if I had it.

2. You wouldn't want to go below 1000, 1500 being preferable.

3. If you follow the proper grit workflow --> polish, you'll have a perfect finish with no defects.

4. Removing wet sanding marks with an orbital would be a huge challenge. Do you know how to work a rotary? If not, I would learn proper rotary technique before you wet sand. It'll take 3x as long to remove sanding marks with an orbital. You have the proper pads and possibly polishes, but they're much less effective on an orbital.

The results are definitely worth the commitment if you have the time. Le Mans Blue would look unreal w/ a wet sanding job.

I would do anything for some Maryland Blue Claws I grew up on them. I still spend plenty of time on the East coast.

It starts around $1,200 and takes at least a week. If you want the wheels taken off, interior steamed, or the engine bay steamed, that adds on to the $1,200.

That pic is deceiving: there's two small rubber blocks under the top and bottom of the wheel.
