I don't speed. I go no more than around 5 mph or so above the posted limit at any given time. I also have a V1 and just like the OP says, I use mine to be more aware. My X and K bands are disabled so I rarely get false alarms. When the KA detector goes off, I almost always see a cop and it's very reassuring regardless of my speed. I have an Akra Evo and wouldn't want to make excessive noise with too much throttle when a cop is around. Here's a perfect example of my V1 saving me just last week.
I was getting onto the freeway the other day and I usually like to run to redline through 1st and 2nd gear (well I let off a bit early in 2nd) when I get on since the entrance is very long before it merges with traffic. Well just as I was about to get on it, my KA band goes off and so I shift into the appropriate gear and cruise around the onramp. right when the onramp goes straight I see a cop a few hundred yards down working his lidar. If it wasn't for my V1, I'd have no clue he was there because he was completely out of site until I would almost pass him. So is my V1 worth it even though I don't speed? Yes. One thing I noticed is my Ka band detector going off a lot when cops just drive by. And in my example above, the cop was using lidar (he was looking through some ocular device). I guess some of them forget to turn off their radar system? I can't think of a better reason why my Ka would go off when they aren't trying to clock someone using that band. I went this route for mounting: http://alekshop.com/services/custom_...lation_service Couldn't be happier as most of the time it's like it isn't even there.

Seriously.
Anyway, I'll be placing my order soon. I regularly travel around 5-10mph faster than traffic. Fast but not wreckless is my style. I know where the speed traps are in my area. Every speeding ticket I've received was when driving elsewhere. I hope the V1 saves me from those. |

I think his reply was directed at me. I offered him up a primer on invincible ignorance, but my hint was lost on him as he did not even open the link.

from http://www.valentine1.com/Upgrade/ "NEW UPGRADE AVAILABLE Our newest Upgrade adds Traffic Monitor Filter, a software algorithm designed to eliminate the false alarms caused by SpeedInfo, a traffic flow-measuring system being installed along some U.S. highways. See www.speedinfo.com to learn more. Although SpeedInfo has nothing to do with speed enforcement, the frequent K-band radar bursts it fires into the traffic stream are interpreted as radar threats by V1s without the Traffic Monitor Filter Upgrade. To learn more about adding Traffic Monitor Filter to your V1, please enter your serial number into the box below:"

So the VAST MAJORITY of RD owners don't buy their units so that they can "push it" more often?? Not feeling that one at all...
If speeding did not result in a fine and points (= increased insurance premiums), what do you think would happen to RD sales?

Quite satisfied indeed. Spots the boys from a comfortable distance. Thinking of hardwiring it into the mirror I believe one of the members here does the job for around $550. Pure aesthetics !

Also, the first time you pass the speed trap spot with the IX, you can mark that spot as a speed trap. From then on, it'll remind you as you approach. I loved my V1, and switched to it from a Passport 8500. But the number of false alerts is dangerous, because you start judging the credibility of alerts. With the Passport, I know that when it goes off, chances are it's real. As you say though, both are good. Cheers

I don't buy the "aware of my surroundings" line either. Everyone buys a detector so they are aware of cops so they can slow down. You need one to be aware of the cop sitting on the overpass a mile ahead so you can slow down to the posted speed limit when you are approaching it, that's all. What other "information" does a RADAR DETECTOR give you? The news? Music videos? To each his own, nothing wrong with having fun with your car and pushing the limits... I couldn't care less either way, just at least be honest. The V1 will be a purchase of mine though, based on reviews here. I move around enough to warrant using it for interstate travel (cops love to hug the borders of VA/NC for example). I used to have an Escort in my old car and it kept me out of a few jams, but with one instant on I got nailed anyway (only a warning, no ticket), so it doesn't really help all that much.
