The most popular reasons seem to be:

1. Price
2. Availability
3. Improved shifting feel (this is very subjective and each person will perceive it differently, if at all)
4. Possible better protection in extreme cold and/or racing

I use OEM 6MT and diff fluids. Have been tracking my Ms for years with that fluid and it seems to work great.

Ran redline for awhile, it was ok. Putting Motul Gear 300 in as soon as I get my new radiator and oil cooler in.

Happened to me years ago, your 2nd gear syncros are done. Try shifting from 1-3 and 2-3 at high rpm and fast, if it grinds then syncros are done. I had my tranny replaced under warranty and now use redline D4. Butter smooth

If my syncros were done it would be grinding every time no?
I never grind any gears in normal driving or redlining. Just happened once after a cold startup then didn't grind at all after that.

Mine would never grind until I would shift in high rpm and fast, and 1-2 2-3 was also notchy and would grind once in a while. Not saying yours is the same, might just be that you need fresh fluid

It's a pretty stout fluid. Used it in two of my previous cars without issue (MT and rear diffs).

I use Red line MTF, "seems" to shift better than OEM but that could just be my imagination.

When I spoke to the Redline rep he actually recommended the d4 ATF over the MTF.

But we must fiddle! I doubt anyone cares, but my GS6-53BZ appeared happy as a clam at 90,000 miles, out of curiosity and boredom and while-you're-in-there-itis during a motor mount change, I changed the fluid mid-way through the change interval at around 17000 miles and sent it to Blackstone, which came back pretty clean.

I haven't noticed a difference between old, new, OEM, or fancy aftermarket, ever, in any of my cars, with the exception of the time I drained way too little, probably factory fill fluid from a 4speed Mustang that had "oh I don't know I think we probably wrapped the odometer at least once" miles on it. That made a difference

I am wondering the "chugging" as BMW wants to call it can be eliminated with a heavy oil. The chugging I am referring to is in the 6MT and when you clutch in goes away and very pronounced in neutral. Any experts!

that's the clutch system itself making that noise, not the trans. Unless you submerge the clutch in the new oil, I doubt new oil will have any effect on the clutch-out noise our cars make, and then you'd have other problems, like oil on your clutch friction surfaces, fire from oil on your cats...

Questions about a couple of issues i'm working through

I have a 2008 e93 M3 and have some annoying issues i'm working on now. For reference I bought it used.

1. The car came with 2 keys. 1 works flawlessly with comfort access and the other does not. The 2nd key will lock/unlock via the buttons but the C/A handles don't work, and I have to insert the key into the slot to start it.

2. I cannot get the key and memory to delete. When I use the spare key it automatically goes into full M Mode and I have to manually turn everything down/off. I went into iDrive and erased all key memory data.

3. Last, i'm trying to sort the roof headliner. The previous owner used a ton of liquid nails to "repair" the 7 odd plastic clips that secure it to the metal roof. I attempted to fix it and made it way worse. The plastic wings on the C pillar are all damaged so I went ahead and just ordered an entirely new panel from BMW. I figure out the back cable bungee disassemble, however I cannot figure out how to remove the front cord from its mounting. I don't want to damage anything and be unable to install the new one.

4. Last, when I unlock my car the drivers side mirror will tilt all the way down, I have its position saved via the memory seat, i'm worried about burning out the mirror motor.

Thanks in Advance!!!
