There are more videos with the CS chasing the stroker but ultimately the suspension settings on the CS were pretty bad and we had a tough time dialing it in

Although the CS is as fast as the stroker (take a minute for that to sink in...), the experience could not be more different. Videos in the CS with the same mic setup as the stroker are boring and it sounds like you're just putt-putting around.

The aural experience just can't compare to a loud S65 with Karbonius + full exhaust, it's not in the same universe!
You need JRZs 😂🤣

I am rebuilding my spare engine in few months. Will probably go with CarBahn Autoworks 4.0L rebuild kit with race cams. Already have Karbonius box and Dinan TBs to go into this build.

Much harder edged intake sound. It's a surprising difference vs the e92 which also has a Karbonius airbox

What's the usage update on the motor? How many miles/track days? Still running strong?

I'll have to record it sometime

Over 5k rpm the S65 naturally takes on a harder edged tone. The stroker sounds like much more of that, such wonderful music

Might have missed it, but whats total cost on a stroker build with all labor and parts? mind sharing?

I see stroker kits from $8k-11k and race cams around $3k. but what about all the labor and tuning?

I'm guessing buying an engine fully built from Lang racing/KMS /Carbhan and selling my current engine might be more cost efffective than buying parts and having someone build it ?

I go to VIR at least once a year, you should come up! To go to Sebring without a trailer sounds pretty risky!

roughly

Assuming you have your own core and all associated peripherals: it's like 25k without cams or tuning or removal/install or the headers+karbonius setup.
So add 3.5 cams + 2 tuning + 4 removal/install + 5 headers/xpipe + 3 karbonius.

I would buy one of the 5k ebay engines and send it to be built, that way you keep (or sell) your current engine.

Without building a stroker, what could be the limit of the 4.0 S65 engine, without increasing displacement? I would like to maintain the displacement, I¡m thinking of mounting Karbonius admission and I think that next to the exhaust akrapovic evo line and MS pulley kit would be a good combination. The next step would be to include about 292 Schrick cams? Leave the akra catles line? type gt4 ...

Regards
It feels incredible to have so many horses in a NA high specific output engine. The F80 CS is also very fast but feels like it has all the passion of a vacuum cleaner in comparison.

I think a high flow cat or catless exhaust, plus karbonius, plus 292 cams would yield lots of horses.
I've been thinking of adding 292s to my E92 but am not in a huge hurry, one thing at a time.

No one has tried this but the more I look at my dyno graphs the more convinced I am that you need 292s for the stock engine and even bigger cams for strokers.
So....roughly the cost of a low mile ZCP car. Seems worth it. 🤟🏻

I am happy to report the cams are installed, modified VANOS (limited) is in as recommended from Steve (Carbahn) who originally built the stroker, and engine is mechanically timed perfect per TIS instructions. New stem seals (BMW); and springs, titanium retainers, and keepers from Schrick are all installed.

Things I found during the teardown....the bank 1 exhaust cam was out of spec on timing, a broken factory valve spring on cyl 2 exhaust, and a broken intake spring on cyl 6 intake. The car had no misses, only occasional random misfires at WOT in the upper end of the rpm band on track days...which I thought was an ignition issue or tuning but now know better, lmao. If we didn’t have the lifter bucket design on the valvetrain, I’m sure the broken pieces would have gotten loose and cause catastrophic damage. The valve spring break point was at the same location on both springs.

I baseline dyno’d the car just before teardown (400whp, 330 ft-lb) which we agreed was on the low side for the motor, but I suspect is now because of the as found mechanical issues.

Just got my powder coated valve covers back, some HKS plugs, and will finish the mechanical work this weekend.

What’s left...getting a tuner lined up. I have tons of photos and will post the entire before and after when done. Hopefully I can get to the numbers near SYT_shadow, but my motor has seen a few years of use and many a track day.

Last mechanical upgrade for the car...I have a 4.10 Motorsports gearset that’s been REM polished along with carrier bearings, and a Wavetrac pumpkin.
