This! Went in requesting that the Auto start/stop feature retain the last setting and they updated the software under warranty. I used the SIB noted in this thread...

I am attempting this in two weeks... Hopefully my dealership pulls through!

Good to go! Using the SB, my dealer updated my 2012 to: E89X-15-03-500

Thanks everyone! I am very happy with the results...

I have not gone back to the dealer yet to have the upgrade installed though.

I don't agree with the 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' mantra. That's like saying, 'you're exhaust isn't broken, why buy a new one?'

Our cars contain sophisticated software and, and, as such, revisions to this sofware are released regularly to improve things. It's no different than Microsoft, Adobe, etc releasing patches and revisions all the time for pc owners. Bugs and deficiencies are identified, resolved, and then released to the end user. In my mind, the M3 (or any modern car) is no different in this regard.

This is true, but only in a perfect world will they see it like us.

So Monster just to clarify; did your auto start button reverse to last position after the stated ISTA version update, or did you specifically have to ask them to change that bit?
I did mine same time last year i.e. ISTA x89-14-03-500 and still have to push that freaking button everytime I start the car!

Thanks!

Interesting... My auto start / stop button is set to "Last User Mode" as described in the SB.

I tested it first thing when I got the car back. The light stays persistent to the last position I had it.

BMW just released a new DME update very recently (Sometime around March 2015). Mine was updated originally around July 2014. Just had it in for something minor and the tech offered to update it. It was the only module that had any updates this time around.

BIG change in cold running performance. Not nearly as much surging or hesitation. Car runs like a dream now.

Is it guaranteed if the dealer updates the software for the auto start/stop "last user mode" feature that all software modules will be updated (and thus get me to 240E)?

I'm considering asking for that fix as well as the "shift lights always on" fix (if applicable to my 2011.75 iDrive E92, not sure if this was fixed yet by that MFG date) just to be sure I get an update.

Which dme is this? Wouldn't this mean 240e is not the latest dme??

Interesting. Will look into that.

DME software differs from the idrive firmware correct? (Bit of confusion on my side).

Yes this one is for your engine. Idrive is purely just for your idrive unit and whatever else is connected to it

Change a SA lol. But there is a bulletin out so you can show it to them. They'll of course say some BS that it's not an official bulletin yadda yadda. It's possible they don't get paid much for it but maybe you also need an alignment or some paid service.

I just tried to justify the software update by requesting auto-start/stop as well as complaining about cold start issues (which do exist on my car, IMHO). My SA said that the auto-start/stop TSB does not apply to my car (6/11 build), as it only applies to build dates 9/11 later. I'm pretty sure it's the other way around.

The other thing they keep telling me is that I have the latest software, which is false because the key reader print out indicates that mine is E89X-11-03-510 (200E) and also states that a new integration level is available. The dealer clearly doesn't want to hear what I'm requesting. I don't have time to hang around there and build relationships with the service manager or lead tech, so it looks like a coder or tuner will be getting my money at some point.
