E30 Fuel Stage 1 & 2 Testing for Alpine Customers

Hey guys. For years many guys have asked for E30 (91-93 fuel mixed with E85) and I have been hesitant to offer such a flash with fears the mixture of fuel would be bad or customer forgets to mix.

For a long time now on my own vehicle I have been playing with mixes. Went from pumping only 1 gallons of E85 up to 4-5 gallons of E85 with every 10 gallons of 91. I have logged over 3,000 miles and the results have been great.

I need five willing active testers. This isn't a chance to try something cool or be the first, you will need to be actively running the file daily for the next couple weeks. If you are busy, or do not drive your car that often please just wait for the final release.

This will be Test Group 18

Send me an email if you like to join with the title "Test Group 18"

In the body of the email please include your user name from the forums.

You will need access to E85.

This test is more for drivability vs max power. Although the power increase seems to be great.

Thanks guys!

Only drawback so far is when returning to full 91 you have to drive calmly for the first 5 miles to allow the car time to adjust down or you can switch back to a regular non E30 map.

Update 3/29/2021: 7 Gallons of E85 with 6 gallons of 91 (AKI) drove about 2 miles (3.2km) allowing time for the vehicle to adjust and fuel to mix. Vehicle running strong. The following morning the car had a slight hard time starting, will play with adding more ignition timing on bottom to help vehicle start.

Hey Alex...I have run mixes of Mobil 93 and E85 quite a bit, especially leading up to the recent revised tune...and I am quite interested in this new tuning.

Are you looking for data-logging, or simply "seat of the pants" feedback with this beta tuning?

TIA

Hey Alex,

Looking forward to the results, id happily consider throwing myself in the ring however not sure if being in Australia and on 98ron would make me ineligible.

Either way appreciate you opening this up for customers

Thanks,
Renel

Awesome new development. I'd join but I do'nt think I drive my car often enough to help out.

Is the goal for it to be able to run on straight 93 and upto a E30 mix? or is it like most tunes without an ethanol content sensor, where it is strictly for E30 and you'll need to reflash if you are stuck and need to run 93?

Can you guys please reply if you have joined the test group with your user names? I know I have sent out four so far.

I have done a decent bit of testing/driving now...Mixed city and highway.

So far, I have only used my "normal" +3 gal E85 mix.

No starting issues...temps have been in the 50-70deg F range.

Power (and delivery) above 2k seems good.

There is a noticeable dip/blip as you transition from idle past 1k...This is with normal stop to stop driving...noticeable in all D settings, to some extent. Maybe worse in D2 then above. Less noticeable in S mode, but tend to rev quicker, in general, when driving in S mode.

I will wait for revision before trying higher E85 %.

I lied...Since no revision yet...I filled up with +5 gal E85, this time.

Weather currently 50-55deg F.

Whether adaptation, or the higher E85 %, the low RPM transition dip seems less pronounced.

Will see how the highway performance is on the way home, shortly...

Sounds like the former. No Ethanol sensor and ability to run full pump or E30 mix on the fly without map switching? That would be awesome if so. Can you confirm this is correct Alex?

Hey, yes the goal would be to have the ability to run some sort of mix and changing back to 91-93 octane without a flex fuel kit. So far we have had much success.

I've been running this map for some time. After a couple revisions lower rpm has a slight dip when car is cold, otherwise fine. I've been pumping 5 gallons of E85, and filling the rest of the tank with 93. Gains feel good, car pulls very well. Have no trouble with cranks in the morning.
Fuel efficiency has stayed around the same from 93.

Really excited for this. I've been running e85 on my 335i for about 100k miles and the car is night and day better all around when running it versus regular 93 pump.

Is this dead in the water?

I haven't seen any revisions, and enquiries regarding updates have gone unanswered.

Anyone gotten any updates, post 3/26/21??

I am still running the original Beta tuning that Alex sent...no major issues, but, as discussed, could use some fine-tuning.

Ummm...OK...but...I replied, immediately, as requested, after your post #9...I noted the dip at low rpm transition, as did HolyChitMeng in post #16...I then emailed twice, asking for the update.

I have no explanation for that...none of them bounced.

At this point, I will just wait for the final version, given it is close to ready.
