Is this 2012 M3 worth $37k???

Hey guys, I currently have a 2018 Mustang GT with the PP1, which I'm considering trading in for this:

https://www.carmax.com/car/17028927

$37k just seems a lot for a car that's 7ish years old. I plugged it into KBB and it's right on the mark for a car with low mileage (34k miles), though.

I would love to hear some opinions on it, and also: do you guys think that car is Jerez Black, or is it Jet Black? Hard to tell form the photos.

Thanks!
Tom

If you're going to fork over that much dough it better be for an M with a nice history of service records....

And usually Carmax doesn't have any service records of the previous owners. You would have to do your own homework.

Nonetheless whichever route you take whether it's from a forum member or from a third party dealer, having service records is a big deal. Some people buy nice cars and become extremely cheap when it comes to maintaining there car....

Just my input. Looks clean from the photos though

It has aftermarket exhaust (Corsa?) and wheels. How many owners? Has zcp?

For comparison, I got mine from Carmax 2 years ago for $40k. It was 2012 ZCP DCT with 16k miles.

I think the price is way too much. Just being devil advocate, compare that car to mine.

2013 E92 ZCP w/DCT, EDC, CF roof, car is stocked, SPG, Cloth seats, Navi, 1 owner.

Car only had 13K miles when i bought mine.
I got the car plus bumper to bumper warranty 5/60k miles for $40K.

It’s worth $30k with that shitty sticker on the lip of the trunk.

What tires are those even?? And look at photo 6... They didn't even attempt to straighten out those insanely uneven mufflers. That carmax sticker on the trunk is pretty hot though.

But man, I payed $41k for my 2011 E90 with only 13k miles back in mid '15, from the BMW stealership in Fairfax!

Check out bringatrailer.com. There is a scatter graph that shows all of the E9x sold on their site since 2016. Great information and that will give you a very good idea of the cars value. My 2011 E92 6sp Comp package Jerez 50k miles will be going up for sale on there very soon. Have to re-shoot a few more photos and it will be listed there.

Don't rush into buying the M3. Find the right one for you and list top 3/5 things that is a must have for your M3 and the right one will be there.
It took me 5 years to find the right M3 that I want, especially in terms of low milage (lesss than 15k), CF Roof and stoked car. All 3 are a must for me.

I think the price is kinda high. I bought mine from Carmax a few months ago and had a great experience with them. I paid $26k for a 2011 M3 Comp package. It has 81k miles but it drives as good as new. I wouldn't get caught up too much in having to find the lowest mileage car in the world as long as its been well taken care of your good.

The hardest part is to find a ZCP w/ clothed seats and low milage, less than 15k or a bust for me.

Nothing special about that car but there are red flags all over it. The only reason to consider it or other cars from Carmax is the ability to buy their warranty.

Hope you were driving something fun in the meantime. I bought the first one I looked at (it was 1 owner, 2.5 years old, 30k miles and CPO) and have enjoyed it for over 8 years now and it’s coming up on 100k miles.

To the OP:

If you listen to a lot of people on this board you will never end up getting one. As far as the car in question, $37k for a low mileage 2012 M3 is a probably a tad high, but not by much if the car is in excellent condition. Unfortunately most of the people on this board low ball cars bragging about the deals they got, but if you do a search for low mileage E92 M3s with 6MT and mileage under 40k there just isn't that many out there.

Here is a cars.com search showing 5 cars...

https://www.cars.com/for-sale/search...47272&zc=90245

I almost bought a 2018 Mustang GT PP2 car when they came out. The performance isn't that much different at all over a E92 M3 in fact they are quite comparable. That being said the E92 M3 even being over a 10yr. old design I found to be a much better car than the Mustang and ended up keeping my car.

To some degree I agree with this. I did zero research on my car (other than knowing the basics of a e9x M) until after I purchased. And frankly, I'm glad I did or else I'd likely be driving a C63 instead. Too much drama and general misinformation on both this forum and others. After the fact, I came to realize that my car has had several owners over its life. Though I got it at 27k miles, so I didn't think things would be too bad. All of the VIN searches I did came back clean. I was frankly seduced by 3 things: A) the beauty of the car B) the lack of options (ZCP is the only option of substance) C) the drive vs the S550 coyote-powered mustang I had at the time. It drove so much nicer than the C63 I had for a week as well. It didn't drive boxster good, but for a car with a common layout, it's about perfect.

I just past the 4 year ownership mark and the vehicle has been fantastic. Not flawless mind you, but over 20k miles, it's been pretty close to it (plugs, filters, and all fluids have been replaced at least once since I've owned it). Here's to hoping the next few yrs are equally as positive.

I think you can find a better optioned, stock example for cheaper. This particular car looks to have been modified on the cheap. Buy a better example, then mod to your liking. Good luck with your search, it took me 3 years to find mine so don't worry!
