Wireless Qi retrofit question

I'm looking to retrofit a wireless Qi charger in my e90 and surprisingly there aren't many examples that I could find. I was looking to change out the ash tray with the sunglasses holder and put the charger there. But my question is will an iPhone X fit in the sunglasses holder or is it too large? Does anyone have one they can check for me before I order one?

This is a (I think) 6S. Fits easily but not much room to spare.

Here's what I use - I got the case for my iPhone X and the vent mount version charger. It's the magcase and magmount qi

It looks like the X may fit in the sunglass holder. I like the idea of having a more OEM look than having the magnetic charger with the cable hanging around.

Please post pics if you end up getting the sunglass holder to work. I'd be interested in doing something similar.

There's an OEM snap in adapter which is $240 Canadian from Germany, through the dealerships. It also boosts reception by connecting to the shark fin, while your phone is charging. (wirelessly charging and signal boost)

If you did an NBT evo retrofit plus this snap in... it would be state of the art and match the 7 series offerings in terms of tech.

Here it is:

Here's an install video. Actually replaces the snap in cradle I believe.

Does that cradle fit in an E90? Everything I found says it fits in the F cars but not the E90.
I just received my charger from ECS and it works but I need to find a place for it. I tried under the plastic shelf of the nav screen but the plastic is too thick to charge the phone.

Very cool. I might look into doing this and making a 3d printed piece.

I ended up putting where the snap in adapter should go. It is under then rubber mat that is usually there and all I have to do is put the phone on top of the mat. Not quite as seamless as the snap in adapter but it will work for now. I was looking at doing something similar to the e70 X5 but there isn't a great place to put it that I can find.

Any issues with phone case + that rubber pad?

No issues so far. I'm not using the rubber pad that came with the charger though. I put the charger under the rubber mat that's usually in the console.

My S8 with a Pitaka CF case sometimes has charging issues. The case is designed to be charged with all wireless charging pads. Maybe its the charger that I am using, but wifes iPhoneX charges just fine... So I was worried with case + another layer of rubber it would not charge, wirelessly.

Yea that's weird, I think it's charger-related. My pitaka case on iPhone X works without issues on Anker's square shaped charger

Has anyone finished one of these? Is there enough room under the sunglass tray to fit a wireless charger? I assume I can just plug it into the cigarette lighter socket?

Never ended up putting it in the sunglass holder. Inside the center console seemed to be an easier install.
