I thought I would add I used to have an 18 type R. It was pretty sweet for awhile but then I realized that I am not in high school any more and have a BMW M3 in my garage with over 400 horsepower that misses me and I should be driving. Lol!

Just drove a buddy's CTR over the weekend, I gotta say this car is pretty well balanced and great for daily. Third gear pulls pretty darn good, first and second was useless as it was wet out. Looking for one in the near future since the wife likes it, too.

This is something you will not get with the CTR. While it may be quicker around the track, it is still a Honda Civic. It is a whole different breed and class of vehicle.

I digress, it all comes down to what you prioritize in a car. If track speed and gas mileage trump all else, perhaps the CTR is the right car for you. If design, quality, and engine is most important, stick with the M3. Figure out what you want out of a car, and then go towards the one that fulfills those needs.

Personally, I would never consider selling my car for the CTR for the simple fact that it will feel like a step backwards. A car is an extension of self, and when I am behind the wheel of my M3 I just feel fantastic. The CTR will never be able to match that pleasure no matter how quick it is on paper.
The stock M3 as a track car is pretty underwhelming- I wouldn't call it a "track beast" unless you mean parking lot hard parking. I drove it stock on track and now my car is not very stock.

The things that you mention like leather, machined wheels and such are detriments on track. I've replaced the leather seats for cloth Recaro buckets that actually hold you in rather than stock seats that have zero support. The stock wheels replaced with wheels that are more light weight and can fit wider and stickier tires. Soft stock EDC suspension for track focused aftermarket suspension etc.

You'd need many modifications to make the M3 a "track beast".. out of the box it's very much a comfortable daily commuter car and no where near what you get with more track focused cars you can buy straight from the dealer now.

Ok so I currently have a type R and a e92 m3. It's a joke.. imo the type R is overrated. I am in the process of trading it for an e90 m3. Fwd and no e brake and it definitely heat soaks. Also it wheel hops like crazy when trying to launch and it really is not that fast or fun to drive. If you want a tuner car get an old 335i or is or a wrx sti. If you are out there Honda and you here me, make they Type R rear wheel drive with an E brake and allow me to make the volume louder for my tunes and you will have created one of the best cars in history. Lol

Ok I feel kind of bad. The Type R is a great car. Handles great, etc. But it really is overratted and I think the STI is underrated.

I and the volume on the type R stereo has this weird safety thing where it does not get very loud. M3 stereo is sooo much better.

WRX/STI are overrated, imho. I've owned/driven many generations, you have to do a lot to have it handle "well" whereas the CTR handles pretty good out of the box.

You have an m3 with 55k miles, enjoy it; take that $7k and use it as a slush funds for repairs ok the m3, use $2k of it now and do the rod bearings. The E9x is the last of a great generation of cars which are not coming back. Plenty turbo 4 hatches to come still.

And lol at that comment on getting a civic if you want high school boys to hump your leg.

I also had a 2019 type r for a few months. I ordered it without a test drive, as soon as I signed the papers and got in to drive it. I was kind of disappointed and didn't get what all the hype was about. Modded it with HKS coilovers, exhaust, downpipe and a Hondata tune. It still didn't do it for me. The whole time I had it, I was looking for a low miles e9x m3 with the right combo to trade it in for.

Ever since I traded my e60 m5 for a f80 m3 and then a f82 m4 gts. I always wanted to have a e9x m3 in the garage.

Silly guy, I know you had bad experiences with your F8x but as a current F80 owner and owner of four E9x cars, 3 of which were M3s I can't grasp the idea of anyone calling the F8x a numb turd lol. It's easily the most aggressive, most balanced, and best-performing M3 I've driven, but then again you know what they say about opinions...

If by “bad experiences” you mean I didn't like them because they were not fun to drive, sounded horrible, and were numb then yes thats accurate.

Numb means they have no steering feel/feedback. My 15 M3 and 16 M4 comp pack were horrible in that department. Maybe they fixed it since then but I highly doubt it. I am definitely not alone in this opinion.

You're right it is the fastest and best performing m3 ever. What good is that if its not pleasing to drive.

Hell I tried to love it so much as an M fanboy I dropped over 15k in wheels, suspension, and exhaust for my 15 M3 trying to make it enjoyable. As a last ditch effort to stay with a new M and be happy I ordered a euro delivery individual comp m4. I still felt it was rubbish and sold it 5 months later for an e92. Was much happier with my slower, less aggressive, yet visceral car.

I have multiple friends that had similar experience about the newer M's and they felt that BMW doesn't make great cars anymore and looked elsewhere.

I never driven one but have driven a M4 for a short period of time so I can't speak the same.

I'm approaching 40 cars owned in my driving career and like I said I literally have the opposite opinion on everything you said about the F8x. Maybe when stock and as a daily driver it won't be as "exciting" as an E9x but once pushed harder I feel the car behaves so much better and sharper than the previous gen, which feels more like a fun refined GT cruiser than a focused performance car. It is really evident that the M division wanted to get back closer to it's roots by putting performance as a priority when designing the F8x, first M3 that weighed less than it's predessor, and huge boost in power and torque, way better cooling, brakes etc..

If you wanted slow, less aggressive and visceral you belong in an BRZ or FRS. That car blows both E9x and F8x away in steering feel, tossability and overall fun to drive for the money. If I'm spending 80g on a "performance" sedan, you bet I want the most performance I can get for the money. I have an E85 tune on my F80 and with over 650 wheel torque in an extremely competent chassis, to me it's pretty close to driving Nirvana. Never had there been a day where I'm like, "Wow this is boring to drive."

I was one of the first cars with BM3 and one of the first cars to push the e85 limits with Cary. Even past where Dzenan was saying it was safe at the time. Downpipes, intake, full exhaust, etc.. so yeah it wasnt a lack of mods or trying to like it.

Its okay man we can agree to disagree. You like the F80.. a lot of us dont.

It's a Civic. Only circumstance I'd get one would be as a DD and in that case it wouldn't be a CTR, the base would suffice. CTR is a teenage boy's wet dream. A grown ass man shouldn't drive one.

Just cause you drive a BMW, that means you're a grown ass man? lol

Albeit an unpopular one, just my opinion. My daily driver is a base Chevrolet Sonic so it's not a matter of classism.

Teenage boy's dream is spot on. I bought one because of that and was dissapointed. My wife even told me not to show up to her work with it because it's so hideous looking.

I have driven and owned one. The only reason why I got it was to fulfil my high school dream of owning one. Needless to say, I was disappointed and got rid of it after 9 months of ownership.

It depends on the track. E92 M3 eats pretty much every stock car built before 2014 bar the F8x M3/4(records around 2:25 by non-pro) at Suzuka, pulling about 2:27 completely stock with PS2s.

That being said I noticed after acquiring US spec E92 M3 (DCT) that my euro E92 M3 6MT pulls harder in all rev ranges, stock to stock. It probably has to do with octane rating in the US(thus less aggressive software), but there are also suspension part number differences; JP spec in stock form was sport suspension (supposedly same spec as ZCP) because it has smoother roads.
