Hesitation when cold - Kangarooing 6MT

Hi all,

New here and got myself a 2007 E92 M3 in Alpine White. I've noticed when cold the car kangaroo's from the 1st & also 2nd gear pull. It's not noticeable in any other gear apart from these two.

Did a bit of Googling, found a few reports of similar issues which pointed towards fueling, however I'm using Shell V-Power Nitro+ (I'm in the UK) which is what was recommended.

It's almost as though I'm successively pressing down on the clutch and releasing it again. The clutch isn't slipping as such, but the issue is apparent.

Is this anything to be concerned about, or more of an 'M3 thing'

Cheers

Are we talking within the first 30 seconds you start the car? If I start my car and it's cold out, and I take off within 10 seconds or so, the car is not happy and will do that. But if I let the car settle a bit (I don't have cold start either), then it never gives me an issue.

Make sure the power button is off to desensitize throttle response.

Yes, even if I let the car settle on the driveway I still get the issue.

Yes, I always drive without the power button, only press it occasionally!

Thanks for both of your replies.

Hi guys, this is still ongoing - any ideas? There's no check control messages but I think there's more to it. What are your experiences?

I get the same thing in my 2010 when I gently roll out of the neighborhood most mornings. It only lasts for the first shift in first and second so have never really thought of it as a problem but just a quirk.

I found it normal, I call her: "bucky" when she's cold. My BPM tune, with the cold start delete alleviated this issue, however.

I think the 240E software helps with the jerking when cold.

I concour that it is normal if the cold start has not ran through its cycle. One minute of idle after start should reduce the bucking.

Thanks guys, feeling more at ease now it's a normal trait! Still getting used to the car and it's power delivery - but getting there with it.

I feel the 240E makes this condition worse actually. Mine would exhibit this behavior even after 2-3 minutes of warm up/idling before I drive when the engine was still cool. Deleting the cold start on my previous tune didn't remedy the issue, but the BPM tune has. If the bucking/surging bothers you, it's something to look into.

My '07 with BPM tune with cat delete is get it once in a while but not all the time. I depress the clutch to minimise the effect. What can you do?

Take your time and not rush her. I usually start the car with the door open to hear the S65 (and check for any weird noises ), get comfortable in my seat, put seat belt on, check my phone for messages, then take off.

You are right ... if you start and drive off straight away, that's when you get this. Hmm, good advice

I noticed 240E improved my low speed low rpm throttle smoothness.

Hooker in my trunk also enjoyed the smooth ride as well

Isn't that what the person in the trunk is for?

When it happens, don't try to fight it... the bucking only gets worse.

Completely release your foot off the accelerator (not just part way), push in the clutch if you'd like, and try again.

This works well, I just push the clutch in or put car in neutral.

It's been a normal M car characteristic for as long as I can remember on all my M3 cars. They always drive like shit when cold.

This makes me feel better . I also noticed this when the temps dropped here in good 'ol Wisco. It only happened when the engine was cold, so I just figured it was quirk. Glad to hear i was right! Silly M3...
