I suspect the feeling most people talk about the CDV causing is being mistaken for the feeling you get from the spring. The change in spring rate would give you a feeling in your foot that the clutch in engaging, but in fact it's really just a change in the pressure on your foot from the pedal. This is why it's hard to shift smooth with the spring still in. Just my guess after reading numerous threads about what the CDV is supposed to do.

Not true at all...Having changed the CDV on my car, it is 100% different. This only applied if you're talking about what CDVs do in general. About the M3, I don't know.

Can you elaborate on the change without the CDV? Do you still have your pedal spring in or have you taken it out also?

It's still there. The shifts are excessively smooth. It was practically impossible to get a super-smooth shift with the CDV installed from 1st to 2nd...and many times 2nd to 3rd was glitchy. The clutch was set to re-engage at a set maximum rate, so one didn't have complete control over when it re-engaged so a shift that would normally work out well did not. It was a pretty constrained CDV, and replacing it with a emptied one completely, and I mean COMPLETELY, changed the dynamics of the car. Ask anyone with a 335 that has done the mod.

True, thank you for that...I mixed up 2 threads with very similar topics! Either way though, the M3 CDV may be less restricted, but unless someone changes it or removes it, and supports the idea that it's the same feeling with or without it, then I'll believe it's not restricted.

Guys i did this mod today along with dropping the car on eibachs, will have pics of that tom along with a small review. But while I was at it I had them take out the spring and WOW. its sick. Night and day. Every shift is smooth as fcuck. LOL he took out the wrong spring at first, so he put it back and he took out the right one Im assuming, took a pic of it.
This is it right? The lateral movement is nothing, barely even moves, this is seriously one of the most affective mods ive done so far. Only down side of this is that its a bit stiffer now, just a bit harder to keep depressed, but when stop u should b in neutral anyway..... |

Yep, that's the right spring. Nope it doesn't provide lateral support. It just looks like it would cause it's big.
GewoW have you looked at the pic provided by Tom@EAS? Do you still not believe it's not restricted?

I did the free mod today as well.
So far, I guess after 3500 miles, I have already got used to it with the springs. Def felt the difference after the removal. Will have to start getting used to this new feeling again. Anyway, I couldnt remove the top pin as it is blocked by the brake pedal. So I just leave it in there. Anyone know how to remove it? Also, the clutch does feel a lil loose without the spring. |
