Env's IB E90 Journal/Pic Heavy

Figured Id post up a journal as it helps keep things organized. I picked up my 2011 E90 about a month ago. I had been looking to get back into an M3 since I sold my E46, also in Interlagos Comp Pack, back in December. Living in NC and owning a house I needed a truck so thats why I initially sold the E46. Im moving back to South Florida for work so I sold the truck and began hunting for an E90 Comp. I wanted an E90 so I can keep this car as my family grows and Ive always wanted a 4 door M car. Having the best of both worlds, to me, makes the E90 a damn near perfect DD/family car. I exhausted every search engine available to find the right E90. July 3rd at about 8 pm I came across the ad for my car, posted by a Ford dealer in the sticks of Tx. It had no pictures but it said blue, Competition Package, DCT, Nav, all the things I wanted so I ran a Vin decoder to find out more. Thats when I discovered it was Interlagos! I dont think this dealer quite knew what they had so I called, emailed, sent Facebook messages because I knew I wasnt the only one looking into this E90. The minute their doors opened July 5th I had a deposit on the car sight unseen. A risk for sure but for the price well worth the gamble. Here are the pics the salesman sent

The car presented well and other than the rear wing, I loved it so I had a family friend in the area go look at the car and he gave me the go ahead. I had my financing in order and got it done, shipped and in my possession in a weeks time. I knew it needed a few small things, TPM light is on, DCT paddles are intermittent and the DCT is seeping slightly. They offered to fix the DCT pan and I negotiated for them to send me a check for their cost of repair so I can have it done at a proper BMW shop here. Here's the day it arrived...

Immediately removed the rear wing and did some digging on what the car had done. Brand new PS AS3, AC Schnitzer exhaust, painted caliper, MS air scoops and MS drop in filter. I replaced the filter with a full MS Stage 2 as the filter was filthy and figured Id add a few HPs in the process. When I bought the car, I looked into the Carfax which started reporting in 2014 at 47k miles. The Vin Decoder showed the car was originally sold in Germany so I immediately did some investigative work in tracking down original owner. It has Pedal Haus pedals with Mflight engraved which I quickly learned was an M group. I ended tracking down the original owner in Germany and found out all the details of the car which is pretty cool in my opinion.

I did a full Leatherique treatment on the interior as well as replaced the floor mats to bring back that OEM feel.

It seems as though the leather has got more matte as time as past since the detail, so while it may not look perfect here it looks it now. I didn't address the steering wheel as I need to remove to diagnose the paddle shifters and may end up doing another wheel.

Anyway, fast forward to this week, I had the car paint corrected and CQuartz Finest coated. The results are nothing short of amazing. My local detailer did a phenomenal job and I couldn't be happier with the results

I also did a detail in the fender wells getting them cleaned up but I didn't post those pics as its kinda boring but was rewarding for me. Sorry for the long winded post but I feel everyone has a story and felt like sharing mine. I had to break up into different posts so the explanations of the photos showed on the app. Hope everyone enjoys!

Nice. See you got front splitters, which hide those holes in the bumper "fangs".

That was a must. When I spoke to previous owner he said they are cooling ducts for the brakes.

So glad to see that the prior owner sold you the car. It really needed someone like you to love her. Great job and great journal.

Thanks man!

Went away for a week cruise and while it was much needed it's nice being back behind the wheel of this car! Scheduling dct pan leak, coolant flush, plugs and rear diff flush this week. Also will probably change front brakes here shortly, rotors seem to be on their last leg. Also thinking of doing an x pipe but keeping primary cats for warranty purposes. Moving to Florida at the end of the month so time is limited!

Quick update after a few issues popped up. My passenger headlight failed causing condensation and dipped beam failure. So I bought a used light complete with ballast and adaptive module and will be addressing that this weekend as well as new bulbs for both driver and passenger

I got a great deal on near new rotors which I need bad. I recently got the Carly app and discovered a fault for brake pad sensors so I got new sensors and Stoptech pads coming. Mine as well overhaul those while I'm at it. Next Thursday it goes in for coolant flush, dct pan leak as well as tpm module which is faulty as well. Just some minor things. I have no clue when or if the rear diff fluid has ever been drained/replaced so I'll probably knock that out as well as doing spark plugs myself. I'm hoping after these items it'll be all sorted and up to date on maintenance.

Some nice details on the Carly app. My car was originally bought in Germany so it comes as no surprise a lot of the common coding was already done like folding mirrors, roll up/down windows, sunroof closing with remote. Also had angel eyes as daytime running lights. I coded for brake lights flashing under heavy braking, changed delay for mirrors, brightness of angel eyes and couple more things. I'll update this more after progress this weekend and following.

Agreed. This is a man on a mission. Your foresight on your new baby was dead on. I think most buyers probably overlooked her but you knew exactly what you were doing and I'll say it again, great car great journal.

Thanks guys. Part of the reason I'm not wasting time is we sold our house here in NC and when I move to Fla there's a good chance we will be in an apartment for awhile. I want to get everything done in my driveway that I can. I also can't stand not having a vehicle near 100% sorted, it keeps me up at night!! I got a fair enough deal on the car that these little things don't bother me much. I think I may need a new battery as I had some faults related to charge but we will see if those come back. Interestingly enough after clearing condensation and codes, my passenger light now is fully function-able again. Still going to replace it but nice to know.

Looks fantastic. Especially after the detail. Also have an IB (coupe) here in Charlotte and need to get a paint correction and ceramic coating desperately.

The silver calipers look great behind the black 359M's.

Maybe i'll see you cruising around (while you're here at least). Ha!

Definitely! I'll be here til Aug 28 so I'll be around! I used Carolinas Finest Detailing for the detail/coating. Johnathan is awesome. He doesn't try to up sell and is honest in his work and what to expect from the detail. I could have been talked into OptiCoat for quite a bit more but he said I didn't need it. Awesome guy.

The painted calipers have grown on me, wasn't the biggest fan at first. They're actually white but they show a lot of brake dust which I'll try to clean this weekend when the wheels are off

What a weekend! Started out with the headlight. Got everything removed, wet sanded, buffed and sealed the replacement headlight only to figure out it was the access door seal on top of my headlight that was causing my issues So I swapped the door over to mine, installed new bulb cause I was there and buttoned it back up. I was going to do the drivers side bulb but I was spent, frustrated, hot and appalled by the process for bulb change!!!

Today was a little more enjoyable as I tackled the brakes. To be honest, other than the pads clips in the calipers, one of the easiest brake jobs I've ever done. Time consuming as I detailed the wheels during the process but happy with outcome. I installed StopTech Street pads and vey lightly used rotors that still measure 30.2 fronts and I forget the tears but damn close to new. Chipped some caliper paint unfortunately made it look like hack job but that paint chipped very easily so I'll have to touch that up. Didn't take pics of the rear as we've all seen the brake DIY. Edit: only casualty was the right rear spacer was frozen to the rotor and when I tried to remove it, it cracked so I have a new pair for the rear en route.

I almost tackled the spark plugs but decided against it. I'm currently sore as shit, getting to old apparently hahaha! Plugs, coolant flush, diff flush, dct and tpm module next week!

Quick update:
Been washing my cars with ONR for about 8 months now and love it. Super easy to use, extremely forgiving outdoors and makes cleaning less painful. Since I got my coating done, I've been researching ways to keep that glossy finish. Found Ech2o which detail buffs in sure know what it is but for those of you who don't, it's a special formulated rinseless/quick detailer/spot cleaner designed to work with coatings like CQuartz. I spoke to my detailer and he said to use it as a dry aid after clean the panels. Needless to say really happy with the results! It goes in tmrw for some work and then some more maintenance over the weekend. I'll update after that for those interested
