Viewable GPS Data? (Or, how to catch a valet.)

Hey all. I picked up my M from my office's valet last night (not my first choice, but self-parking isn't an option in our building) to find the MPG reduced by .2 and the mileage up by 0.7. Clearly the valet took it for a spin, though it appears that he/she at managed to avoid any scratches.

Does anyone know whether our GPS records all travel data such that I could download/view this information? I'd really like to have some proof on my hands if/when I escalate this (e.g., security camera footage, etc.). Thanks for any info.

3/4 of a mile just to find a parking spot? WOW! You either work at Area 51 where they keep all vehicles at a safe distance OR your car was used as an amusement ride by some valet attendant IMO anyways!

-.2 MPG and +.7 miles... Really? You need to either 1) relax a bit, or 2) move to a different location where you can park your own car.
Personally, I recommend option# 2.

I couldn't deal with a place that forces you to let them drive/park your car.

Don't think GPS does this.

And .7 miles? That's not much of a joyride. When I was a valet we'd take them out for a Ferris Bueller-like spin. Hence the reason I don't use valets.

Not trolling. Just (over)protective. It's an indoor parking garage under an office building and the consensus among co-workers is that .7 isn't within the range of normal.

Either way, it sounds like it's a "no" on my question. Thanks.

.7 isn't that much. Considering he had to drive to the spot and back, so really the parking spot was .35miles away, completely possible if it was in a parking deck or in a busy city area where you have to drive a bit to get to the lot.

The .2 decrease in mpg was most likely due to the warm up cycle when he brought your car back.

You're being WAYYYY too overprotective IMO.

I agree with OP, it doesn't pass the reasonable test. assuming your garage is in downtown NW DC, 0.7 miles accounts for about 2 laps around a DC (long) block in downtown DC.

Just saying, if anything they drove it around the block twice, which is feasible given all the one way streets in the area as they moved your car. Most of you guys don't live in locations where parking is at a premium. I've seen these parking garages before too. All cars are shoehorned in there, but they generally don't move cars around the block.

I recommend next time you park, just put a post-it note on dash that says "check-in mileage: XXXXX", just so they know, you're tracking.

If you are able to use the "MyBMW Remote" iPhone app with your vehicle's model year and option set, then this would work once the vehicle is stationary and the engine "off." You could see where it is parked -- within a mile, I think, or thereabouts.

What you've got to do is cut the valet's achilles tendon on the back of his leg right at the bottom. He'll never play golf again, because his weight displacement goes back, all his weight is on his right foot, and he'll push everything off to the right. He'll never come through on anything. He'll quit the game.

they drive it to a spot. then they have to move it. then move it again. then bring it back. then move it again

i can see it adding up

.2 mpg is nothing
if you let the car sit for a couple mins that will happen

if they were flooring it, you'd see a 2 mph decrease. now THAT I could understand

Also, the m3 isn't an exotic... I'd be curious how you'd treat a Ferrari

Maybe a VBOX would work?

I work as a valet on the weekends and I'll have to agree that .7 miles is a little much. But you are pretty anal to complain if there is no damage or anything...

I always take extra special care of nice cars, although I may cruise around the parking lot a couple times if it's something really sweet (M3 )

The reason I purchased my car >>> I got to park this guy I probably put .7 miles on it driving it around the parking garage, taking the long way to the valet spots. If the owner is here, sorry but I couldn't resist. Thank you!

I don't understand why everyone is saying the .2 mpg isn't a big deal. I have to flog my car to get it to move off of the 17.2 that I have been at for the last 6k miles or so. isn't that a average stat over the lifetime or last reset? which would lead me to believe that it would take a lot longer to accomplish then a warm up cycle.
