need water pump advice/recommendation

I've been getting sporadic codes for iregular coolant temperature during the winter so I've finally decided to get off my lazy butt and do something about it. At first, i was going to buy the thermo/WP kit from fcp euro but then the WP included in the kit is made by GRAF. I looked up GRAF and it seems a lot of BMW owners has had bad experience with it. The other choice seems to be GEBA. My car is 2011 with 46k miles and WP is not leaking. Can you guys help decide what to do? It looks like the impeller on OEM WP is composite or plastic so it may not last long?

1. Just do T-stat and leave WP.
2. Get the GEBA and do it
3. Get BWM Motorsports WP at $500

I don't mind doing WP while i'm in there anyway, but not sure about the quality of these aftermarket WP....

Any input is appreciated!

Rein wp has metal impeller. I've been using it for years now, no issues.

Thanks for the input. Rein WP does not seem common in US these days. I cannot find one. Anyone else with other experience?

At 46K the original water pump likely can last another 50k miles. To my knowledge the stock pumps aren't prone to failure like previous years.

Changing the pump is not hard. The tricky step is getting the pulley out without removing a belt tensioner. I was able to pull mine out, but chipped an edge when putting it back in. If I had to do it again I would seriously consider pulling the radiator out just to have more room to work.

I am at 108k on the original. Might change it in the next year as preventative maintenance if I have time and am looking for a project.

Do you think the age matters? it is about 10 years old now. I'm wondering if the composite impeller on the oem pump can last long. Bearing, i guys it's more about the mileage.

I am running the Geba pump. Original pump was replaced around 120k miles as it was starting to weep a little bit.

One year down with the Geba, around 8k miles and one track day. It seems to be holding up fine.

Typically you get a weep before failure, but I suppose a catastrophic failure such as a broken impeller might not give any advance warning. I think that would be pretty rare. I have been on this forum for 10 years and water pump failure is extremely rare.

I don't recall seeing any threads about failed impellers. It seems the issues on past models have been addressed. I would wait until you see weeping coolant just under the pump. I only saw small drips when mine started to go.

46k miles seems nothing for the pump, what makes you certain thats the issue mate? What are the codes?
Believe you can get a pretty good idea of the shape by lifting the thermostat house, such out the coolant and simply look down at the impeller.

the code points to either the sensor or thermostat. WP would be done as part of preventative maintenance if i was to do it.

Had CEL 2B59 for over a year; Car was slow to warmup.
Just hit 100k, ended up replacing the thermostat + sensor along with the water pump for peace of mind.

Went with the geba waterpump from ECS

Suggest replace thermostat and sensor to start with, I'm guessing its the sensor, not even sure the pump have a sensor/diagnose circuit.
Plenty bad thermostat out there without a code btw.
Replaced my thermo last weekend, didnt do the sensor although I had a spare. Coolant back to 79C.

Again can't imagin your pump is gone after 45k miles.

I bought that kit as well, the actual items you receive are a bit different from the pics on the website.

The pump is a GRAF unit (Made in Italy) with a metal impeller and the hoses do not have the sleeve shown in the pics.
