I Got The Best Birthday Present Ever (Carnage Inside)
So, I went out to dinner with some family and friends for my 39th birthday. I had finally straightened out some issues with the car the night before, and it felt a lot better than it has in a while.
I parked on the street as I have a million times...it's a wide 2 way street in a town with a lot of nice street seated restaurants and a pretty damn slow posted speed limit. We're finishing up our meal, my wife's parent leave while we're taking our time with friends paying checks and stuff...when my mother-in-law comes running back frantically to tell me something happened to my car. We rush out of the restaurant to see this. Happy Birthday To Me. Oh. The person fled the scene. Luckily, a bunch of people were eating outside and got descriptions and the plate number.

Damn, that's messed up. Someone did that to my WRX a bunch of years ago. It was parked outside my apartment on the street. I was inside watching TV, when I heard a loud "crunch" followed by my alarm. I jumped up and took off down the stairs and out to the street just in time to see an old beat up Jeep Cherokee full of assholes peel out down the block while the guy in the backseat yelled at the driver to go faster. I didn't have time to get the plate number before they turned the corner. I filed a police report but nothing ever came of it.
Good luck finding the loser and with the repairs. |

Patchogue. There was also a CCTV thing across the street, so hopefully they can pull something from that. The guy working the case is super chill, so I have some hope.

Really sorry this happened to you. Try to think on the positive. You have the license plate # so the driver will be charged with hit and run which is going to give him a real expensive and potentially dramatic jailed ending to his bad behavior. It looks like the damage is all repairable without any issues with the frame. I hope your insurance co is good to you on this one so you dont have to wait to get things fixed.
Every week when I think I have gotten ahead of the issues in life, some shit comes up. Its all about how you act when it happens to you. Keep your head up and focus on the days ahead when things get back to normal.

Awful news - hit and run makes it worse. I hope the police can run the plate. Keep us posted - the forum loves justice.

I hope they are able to ID who did the damage to your car. In the meantime I also hope your insurance company treats you well.
I've had my car keyed and it felt like a major violation. It was significantly less damage than you incurred, so I imagine you currently have significant disgust for the individual who ran away after doing that. |
