Accident Repair Question

So something horrible happened. I was going through a round about and was hit by another driver. They hit my passenger side door denting it pretty bad and there is a scratch from the front of the door all the way back to the right rear tire. The scratch is about 2 inches tall and I would say deep.

Let me explain my whole situation...I live in Spain, drive a 11 e92, I do not trust the mechanics to much and the BMW dealership has no body shop. They send it out into the town anyway. I went to get an estimate on the car and the mechanic told me that the door needs to be replaced, the rear panel can just be sanded then repainted and the rear wheel will have to be repainted (they were painted black with red stripe). I agree with the door needing to be replaced and the wheel being repainted but can you just repair the panel? I understand that the whole panel is quite big and includes the piece above the door but I would prefer to have it replaced.
What do you guys/girls think?

I will post some pics of the tragedy soon.

If the damage to the rear quarter panel is slight, repairing it is the answer. If it is mangled (which it doesn't sound like it is), it should be replaced. It is a HUGE and expensive job to remove and replace the rear quarter panel since it is a spot welded component of the unibody.

I'm not sure how things work in Spain but if you really want it replaced and the other guy's insurance is picking up the bill, you can definitely push for that. On the other hand, you say that you are leery of body shops (likely for good reason) and I personally would not want a body shop I didn't trust doing major surgery on the unibody. I'd rather have them repair it and I'd monitor the progress to ensure they are doing it properly and using little to no body filler.

Normally BMW has preferred Body Shops they use, that is to say the Body Shop does actually have some of the staff that has been trained by BMW facilities.

I don't know if you live near a larger town in Spain or not. I recommend that you find a BMW dealer ship in the next larger town where you live then ask them; "Do you have a certified BMW Auto Body Repair Shop?

Then get the address and have them look over your car. They will advise you correctly.

In North America this is the case BMW and the Insurance companies make sure your interests are looked after in this regard.

A certified BMW Body Shop normally displays Certificates from BMW with the employees name in there offices. Remember it is your car and it should be restored back to what it was before the accident. You should accept nothing less.

Sorry, I wasn't able to remove the dent. Concerning the pic, I saved your upside down pic on my computer. I then inverted it and then saved it. I then uploaded it, and that was it.

Last car I saw upside down stuck at the celling was in Stuttgart in the Porsche Museum, according to the theory of downforce when this Porsche 956 reaches a speed of 321.4 km/h, it could theoretically drive on the ceilings. Now only in theory mind you. Anyway something to that effect was written on the wall near the upside-down Porsche 956.

The entire right side will get painted.

New door, repair/refinish the quarter panel, along with blending the fender.

That's it, case closed.

Bondo must be used for that quarter panel repair.. No way around it. Sorry.

PM me if you have any questions.
