I was just wondering if there is any difference between the Y-cable from BMW which is $99 I heard compared to the one on the link below that is sold in Amazon for $21??

Just incase it matters my car was built in 6/2010

And is there a Y cable for the iPhone 5? Trying to avoid getting another $30 adaptor

If you already have the y-cable for the previous iPhone, just get the adapter like I mentioned in your other thread. No need to get yet another cable if you don't need to.

The cheap Y cables have been noted as having many problems with data transfer. It's rumored that BMW has a chip in their cable, but I've yet to see this confirmed. I negotiated with a local parts manager to give me a discount on mine and walked out the door for $60. Always go OEM if you can...

I have both aftermarket ones and OEM y-cables.

The aftermarket ones work. Be sure you have the one with a chip inside that allows ipod control. The only difference I had from the aftermarket and OEM one was that they had different connectors where it attached to the ipod/iphone. I found the OEM one harder to connect and disconnect.

As for the iphone 5 adapter. It works but I found the audio quality was really terrible. The 30 pin to lightning adapter has a built-in DAC in the adapter that is subpar compared to the DAC on the iphone.

I don't have a Y-cable. I tried plugging the USB cable that came with my iphone 5 but the iDrive said that the device wasn't supported.

I been listening to musice just out of the auxilary jack... but thats been killing my battery on my phone.

That's odd. It should work fine. Try updating your software in the car via the BMW website.

The Tech, do you have a product/solution for using my iPhone 5 with a 2008 M3?

You don't have a combox

You'll need the OEM Y-cable (recommended) and the ip5 adaptor.

I got the same message with my wife's 2011 128 and the dealer sent us a Y cable for free. This was for an Iphone4S
