New Bridgestone RE-71RS coming soon...

Apologies if this has already been brought up, but I wanted to recycle this post and get some feedback from the E9X M3 crowd. Anyone excited about the RE-71RS?

Hopefully, it should somewhat address the lack of tire availability as a whole due to supply chain issues brought on by COVID. It sounds like Bridgestone has finally confirmed that the new RE-71RS 200tw Extreme Summer tire will be coming to the states in 38 sizes. This is great news for enthusiasts that track, and I’m curious to see how they stack up against other notable 200tw tires.

It seems like there are some solid options for M3 track builds in the list as well…

Several good size options. Does a 295/30/18 square fit? I haven't seen anyone run that setup.

A lot of people run that setup.

It works if you work it

Tire Rack told me in March that they tested the RE-71RS and it is slower than the RE-71R. So they invited the U.S. Bridgestone Rep to the Tire Rack track to test them himself. He agreed that they were in fact, slower. The Bridgestone U.S. rep wrote a letter to the brand manager to this effect. Bridgestone told their rep that the RE-71RS is "what you are getting".

Tire Rack said that the RE-71R fly off the shelves on their own. A great "go pound sand" strategy on changing what customers love.

That's a shame. Any sign of a corresponding increase in durability if the tire is slower? Or does it wear just as fast as the old tire while being slower...

Good question. I'd take a little less pace if the tire life is significantly better.

but if the pace is slower and the tire life is longer... might as well get Conti ECF at that point.

Unless the Conti doesn't come in the size I want.

There really is a lack of selection if you want to run 265/35/18 and 295/30/18. It seems like a lot of the top choices will have one but not the other. Today you're only real "street" tires in that size are the Cup2 or A052.

If you're on the square 275/35/18 then I agree, might as well run the Falken or Conti both of which have reviewed very well.

I'm curious to see the price for these as well as experience the availability. Half of the tire recommendations I make to customers nowadays end up being out of stock in their area... Hopefully, another 200TW option alleviates that although I'm sure the tire situation will also improve over time.

I do want to see the Comparison tests when the tires actually arrive as I doubt they will be a full endurance option like the ECF or RS4.

best motoring just did a GR Yaris vs F82 M4 video, where the cusco GR Yaris has RE71RS and it performed well over the other two GR yaris competitors.

the Cusco GR Yaris used the RE-71RS and the 2 other GR Yaris used RE-12D with the M4 using A052s lol.

Which supposedly the RE-12D should be a faster tire..

but yeah that seems to be the case for 200TW market right now, can't really get anything.

I feel like tire availability is maybe more an issue on the west coast? Every time I've looked on TireRack or DiscountTire for any of the stuff I'd like to run it's all been immediately available or within the week.

It also wouldn't surprise me in the least if the 71RS is faster or slower depending on the tire size/vehicle weight. Seems to be common that for some cars they just might be the next best thing out there while others they aren't as good as the original. I don't think this would be anything new.

tirerack is owned by discount tire now, so we might see more availability, but in the westcoast since we see decent weather year round at least in california, vegas, arizona, new mexico.. i wouldn't be surprised if performance tires are just more consumed here.

Why aren't they doing 315/30R18? This is a spec tire size, and ultra-popular on C5, C6, and C7 track cars. 335/30R18 is our popular rear but now I don't have a good front option...

Someone needs to compare these to the Falken 660's.

They fit on 10.5" rims We have been running them in Asia for about a year now. It's a tight fit if your offset is 20 or lower.

My ze40 10.5" et 19 rubs slightly on full lock with 275/35/18 and 295/30/18 just barely touching due to wider and square shoulder

Hope this help.

P.S. Great tire for time attack but falls off after 3 hot laps. For practice I still uses AR1 295/30/18 (narrower with no rub)

It fits just fine with no weird prep. You need a proper set of 10.5 ET24-27 wheels and it's a direct fitment

We run 295/30 Hoosiers all the time and 285/30 BFG R1 as well (same width as Hoosiers 295)

Out of curiosity, what does the alignment on your E90 look like? Going the 295 squared route after my 275 NT01s (eventually) cord.

-3 up front, -2 in the rear. I set camber to -3 at the track and go to -2 for the street. The track camber setting includes toe out which is great for track use on these bad boys!

Happy to hear I don't have to run silly amounts of camber up front. I assume you do 0 toe front & rear for street driving?
