Mineral white and SSMII are my favorite non-individual color. Condition over color for the most part except anything black.
Full XPEL and the paint still looks great.

Decided to change my color
I didn't want to run into another car with the same color so a custom wrap was the only real option with flexibility to change my mind later.

Because Red
I had been keeping track of the market, half-looking for an E90 M3 while we still lived in SE Michigan. The idea was to get serious about buying once we executed our plan to move to the South. When we got settled in NC, I started looking harder, and kept showing my wife listings I was considering, mostly in SSII and IB, with Space Gray on Fox Red a possibility. To her credit, my smart lady said "What are you doing looking at all of these other M3 colors, when all you've ever really wanted was red?" I had not considered it, because in Michigan, red will get you too many tickets, and this car was to be a daily driver. Yes, my wife is a keeper.
After that, it was game on! Took me over a year longer to find the right one, and I'm still in love. It's a 2011.75 E90 M3 6MT ZCP, in Melbourne. I had paint correction, resin and clear film (everything in front of the A Pillars) done before even taking delivery - money well spent! This pic was recently taken on the car's 8th birthday. |

Hmmm, color never really entered mind. For me, it was the features that were more attractive to me. White is pretty boring and when you go to events, pretty much every e92M is white. I guess it's a pretty safe color, but also a classic M3 color. However, I've never seen another e9x of any variety with a manual, cloth seats, and no nav. To me, that was most important.

Both of mine were impulse buys.

So full disclosure Melbourne Red was not my first choice.
I was trying to get a Alpine White E92. I knew I was going to purchase my M3 from CarMax to ease any rod bearing concern. I only had a small window to purchase it. As the wife and I were living with the in laws to save money and we really wanted to start our moves to buy/build a house. (note if you are not a homeowner, you cannot exactly buy a car when you are in the process of doing the finances of a house) Bunch of bad choices in Alpine White came across CarMax, unwanted options, weird aftermarket wheels, etc. but this prime example I now live with in Melbourne Red popped up in my search alert. Every single thing I wanted, but it was Red. Not my first color, but not a bad color and I know love it. Comp package, non sunroof, carbon fiber leather trim interior I spent the $300 to have it shipped to my local CarMax. The rest is history. (http://jalopnik.com/the-journey-to-a...-v8-1761818713) Bonus info, there was one alpine white that basically was perfect. All my Melbourne Reds options, plus the black GTS wheels I have now. As soon as I got the phone alert that it was a new listing, it was already gone before I could reserve it. |

I had three different factory orders but the first two did not work out, a dakkar yellow II with rust brown interior (received the production approval by BMW), a straight jet black M3 and a silverstone II. The SSII excells at showing 3D lines and curves on the body which saturated colors or black tend to blend and make disappear. The first two cars were ordered through online dealers. But the first dealer ordered the car to his dealership's name (my fault for not requesting to put a deposit down) then he tried to mark it up over what we we had already decided, so i let it go. He probably had this strategy planned since he never asked for a deposit. The black one, agreed on a price but never heard back from that dealer. Finally, i decided to order from a local dealership and secured a SSII. I asked for DKII first again but was told individual colors production stopped early 2013 for USA, so i probably got the last SSII M3 produced.

Working on a picture hosting that will show up... Condition and maintenance were first, it just so happened that the PO had a SSII on Fox red fully wrapped orange. Love the color. Also love the idea that I have another color underneath when I get tired of it. Previously had an AW/Cinnamon e46. Last edited by fs34; 11-29-2019 at 07:24 PM.. |

I found a good car fair priced in the combination I wanted, E90 Silverstone 2 with silver gray leather, the woven carbon fiber trim and the 18" double spoke wheels, I think called 219's, just don't like the 19" 220 style (probably by myself on those)
To me it's a timeless classic look, the salon version of a silver Z8. On a coupe, I would go gray, white, maybe red or SS2 But all subjective and personal reference. |

You've got a seriously bad attitude...I bet you're that "one-upper" kind of guy. LOL in your profile you even had to put "factory order".... for what... SSII? Guess what buddy? You're not that special

It sounds like i hit a sensible nerve, LOL. Do you have a wrap ? Yep, SSII and proud of it, one of the best E9x color for showing 3D curves on the M3 (together with AW). Each paint color has its strength and weakness, flashy colors are great to make the car stand out in a group, space grey gives character to the car, MR is a beautiful blend of red and orange, IB and LSB are reminiscent of vintage muscle cars, jet black is the coolest, JZB is classy. I like them all but plastic wrap isn't a paint. Get a kitchen trashbag and press it again a fridge, that's what i think about when i see a wrapped car. Colors are a matter of personal opinion.

Negative on the wrap. I guess you haven't seen very many wraps... I'd beg to argue that most factory paints are terribly executed, often with varying cases orange peel (even your SSII). **Edit: Sensible nerve? Yes, I find it sensible to use a wrap to change exterior colors rather than performing a full repaint. On the other hand, a sensitive nerve? Nope. Please proofread your lengthy and extremely polar opinions. |

OP, you are absolutely correct about the subjectivity factor in color choice. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
After seeing Melbourne Red in person, that removed any doubt as to which paint would be the one of choice and the only thing that has changed over the years is my appreciation for Jerez Black Metallic. JBM is unique in so many ways. I am not posting to convince anyone of anything rather to say that if I had to go through whole process of ordering the M3 again nothing would be different. After the fact, Sickfinga informed me that my 2012 M3 is a 1-1 in N. America which makes it the rarest of the rare. Please, no inquiries. FWIW, in my humble opinion the E92M3 looks fantastic in any OEM paint, clean or dirty. To each his/her own.

I really wanted IB, but also wanted Fox Red. I was back and forth on getting a superman car and in the end decided against it and went with Jerez, I love how blue and purple it looks in certain lights.
I will say looking back at it I probably would have done IB as much as I love my car.
