Unhappy Broken iDrive during Andream install (CCC)

Hello all,

I've done some searching around but can't find exactly what I am looking for. I was attempting to install an aftermarket CarPlay/AA unit. Specifically the following: https://www.wakaa.us/products/apple-...90-e91-e92-e93

It was very painful to make it fit as others have noted. I did eventually get it to fit, but may have been a bit hamfisted in the attempt. Upon assembly the did not power on. I checked the wiring harness and all other wires. Everything seemed to be intact. I then attempted to reinstall the old iDrive screen with the original harness only. This screen would not power on either despite working before the install. My question is, what is most likely the culprit? Bad CCC unit? I did notice that the fiber optic cable was only intermittently flashing red after the attempted install, and now does not at all. Could it be that? I realize this is probably not enough information, but some most probable issue suggestions would be awesome.

Thanks for your time!

Did you damage the pins in the back of the radio?

I suppose it is possible and will try to confirm tomorrow, but I did look pretty closely and there didn't appear to be any bent pins in the back of the unit or damaged wires in the harness.

Is there any way to confirm it is the radio itself and not the harness?

It's pretty hard to damage a pin.

-You could have potentially damaged something sensitive with a power surge. I inadvertently fried my iDrive during a removal/reinstallation of my carplay unit. Shouldn't have happened but I ruled out every other possible option and a new unit fixed it no issues.
-If you have ISTA see if you can pull codes. It will give you information on the MOST loop.
-Check that the fiberoptic MOST cable wasn't damaged or pinched when you were installing the unit. The fact that you were able to see it flashing means you had the unit running while it was disconnecting, so there could have been a power issue.

Disconnect the battery, reconnect everything, check the connections and no pinched or damaged cables behind the unit and then see if you can run a diagnostic.

First question is, do you still have audio in the car even tho your screen does not work? Just a thought but did you attempt to install this CarPlay with the battery connected? Same thing happened to me about a year ago when I forgot to disconnect the battery while installing a MMI interface. I did a process of elimination with a friends car by installing his screen to my car which also did not power on. I took my screen and installed in his car and the screen worked. Mind you I still had audio but no screen display. I found that I had blew the Idrive screen fuse. Replaced and all was well. I usually disconnect the battery when installing or removing anything electrical in these cars because they are temperamental.

Thanks for the guidance. I do not have ISTA, but do have INPA. Would that read any codes?

I don't know if I have sound or not, but I ordered a replacement CCC unit from Ebay. Tried it with both the original screen and the aftermarket. No power on either one. When tried to install this new unit I did so with the battery disconnected. No luck.

No audio, wheel/knob spins freely. SOS malfunction. I discovered that the optical cable is only sending a signal (flashing red) when the plug is oriented upward. See video for reference. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1U1-...ew?usp=sharing

I can only get it to flash when it is oriented that direction, no pushing/pulling/bending will allow it to flash when oriented any other way. I'm guessing this means it is damaged. Could that cause all of the symptoms including no power to screen? I can't seem to find any guides on replacing this.

It could possibly do so but I'm not that familiar with your current issue. If I had to guess, I believe there's a short somewhere in your optical cable for it respond only when vertical!:
