LUX vs literally any other cheap bulb

I need to replace my stock daytime running lights on my 2011 e92 m3 and looks like the general consensus is that LUX bulbs are the way to go. But at $200, are they really worth dropping over 10 times more than any of the lights available on ebay? Am I missing something?

The eBay kits are garbage and dim to almost nothing as the lightsources heat up.

LUX will get the job done right the first time.

If doing, I'd do it right with LUX.

My car came with them and the bulbs did look well made and were bright/even enough. But I swapped them for OE/Osram halogens because that's the look I prefer.

Gonna be the voice of madness here, I put these CREE LEDs in mine a bit more than a year ago, been very happy with them. They match the color temp of the factory HIDs nicely, and they dim in sync on lock/unlock (there are "steps" to the dimming, not a perfect slide, but it's a decent look.) $50.

Crappy cellphone pic of the LEDs installed.

I tried a handful of eBay bulbs, hated them all. Went with LUX and I couldn't be happier! I would recommend going with the LUX H8 180

I bought the lux variable ones as I wanted to match the ring colors with the HID bulb itself and found that the color is around 4900k. The oem yellow looks a bit odd with HID white bulbs. If you shop around, sometimes you can catch a deal on eBay for around 155-160 for variable kit and about 180 for the newer kit.

The key thing with the lux, is that he has a bias circuit for the leds to ensure current compensates for natural aging of the bulb which is what the cheaper Chinese ones lack..

I've never seen Lux 180 in real life but From all the pics and what I read on reviews everyone says the Lux inner rings are 10 times brighter than the outer rings. Does it actually look bad in real life or is it just in pics? I've seen a few 335's with evenly lit rings around, just wondering if they are running lux H8?

I second this observation!!! I've seen some E9X series with what appears to be evenly distributed brightness and color on their halos. I wonder if it's a full headlight mod or just a great bulb?

Ive seen fully rebuilt headlights, but the ones I'm talking about are definitely not (I see them mostly on stock cars with regular ppl driving them normally).

The inner ring will always be brighter, that is just the design of the rings from the factory and the effect is more pronounced when using LEDs versus the stock halogen lights. From what I've gathered, LUX does the best at minimizing this effect, but it is inherent in the design so even LUX will not be perfect. When looking straight on, they will look pretty even, but at any sort of angle, the inners will appear brighter. Photos generally appear slightly worse than in real life IMO. The only solution is to retrofit the rings for 100% even lighting distribution.

The 335s you are seeing may be LCI models. They upgraded the headlights on the non-M only so we got stuck with the old design

Been there, done that.

Went through multiple "cheap" bulbs (everything from $20 pairs, to $80 pairs) over the years on various E9X cars I owned. The only ones that consistently performed the best and last the longest are LUX. Don't waste your time with bullshit eBay bulbs...

Thanks everyone for the great words about these lights. Yes the inner and outer rings will never look the same because the phsycial rings themselves are very different. Our designs work to help compensate for this however to help balance them and make them more equal. From an angle the outer rings will never be fully illuminated, but once you step back from the car they will look more even.

Most importantly is that other drivers on the road are far enough back that they get a full view of the rings to make them bright. Here are 2 quick customer photos that was sent to us:

I've been on my custom Lux V3 5000k LEDs for a long time now. These were $300+ back then.

Still going strong despite having to have the ballast replaced a few times.

Due to the E92 headlamp design, the inner ring is a lens, while the outer is a optic ring, which shows a difference when looking at the lights from an angle or above.

Get eye level with the headlight (how most people on the street will see) and the rings will fill out completely like in pictures.

This. SO much this. Seeing my car or my GF's behind me (all have LUX 180) in the rear view mirror, the angel eyes look evenly lit and bright. From other driver's perspectives, the output is perfect.
