Any advice guys? Macht Schnell or Dinan underdrive pulley kits

Hey guys, just wondering which kit provides better performance and overall reliability. These are the only two I have seen so far, any other companies besides these two make underdrive pulleys for an E92 ///M3? Thanks guys.

Lots of companies make pulleys. Turner, Rogue, AA, etc.

IMO, I can't recommend the Dinan pulley. The double-sided belt is impossibly tight and makes installing it a complete PITA.

I have a turner on 1 car and a Dinan on the other. I couldn't really tell you which performs better. Both are well made and don't make any noise over stock.

I have built cars from the ground up, fully built motors, painted cars, etc... I spent 3 days attempting to get a Dinan pulley on my car and tossed in the towel. It didn't help when Dinan themselves admitted to me that there have been cars their own techs couldn't get the double sided belt over the pulley.

I went with MS pulleys in the end.

Anything but Dinan, as others have said the power steering belt is so friggin tight you WILL wish you never bought it, actually that part pissed me off so much that I WILL never buy another dinan part again!

Could you please elaborate. I just purchased a E90 M3 recently and the pulley seems like a very popular, lost cost, and effective mod.

Of course, the best mod for any car will be the driver

but since you mentioned that this will make no gains, how come so many people dyno'ed before and after the pulley and got positive results? Cheers!

I mean I wouldn't say pointless but I know what he means... It's really for just some 4-5 hp gains.. Which really isn't much but I'll take what I can get lol

Thanks for the advice! Haha so the MS it is! I've asked some people off the forum yesterday and they said the same thing!

I run the Rogue. Bought it used on the forum and have run it for 2-3 years now without any issue. Cannot tell you the gains. I agree with the basic logic that if the claim is it adds 10 rwhp by underdriving 15% then eliminating all accessories would allow the engine to make like 60 rwhp more. Still, I at least imagined I felt something after installing it. I imagine I am a race car driver sometimes, too.

On these cars, adding pulleys isn't just about the "whp" figure. Alleviating drag on the engine helps the car rev with just a little less effort. I did this mod for the increased "driveability". The "added power" was a bonus.

+1 for MS as they don't underdrive the A/C unit, have a power steering pulley to reduce stress on that particular component, and use over-the-counter belts that can be purchased from your neighborhood parts store. (FYI - Dinan and AA both require special belts sold from the tuner of your choice.)

In theory, the pulley that unleashes the most horsepower, will be the least reliable.

Glad I read this thread, though. Looking at pulley kits myself.
