I gave this a shot with the 1080 film mentioned by deansbimmer . I also tried to wrap the shift knob but it is tricky around the curved parts and I had trouble getting some wrinkles out.

I have a cf cover coming for the shift knob that was mentioned in the general forum that I'm gonna try.

Thinking of trying to wrap the shift knob as well, only the silver area. Not a fan of the silver color.
Yes, it has to be removed by cutting the tabs (only the melted part so you still have some tab left). Once its wrapped install the idrive trim and glue it.

I didn’t remove the idrive trim. I wrapped over and then cut around it with a sharp exacto blade.

Your right if you're using the 3m stuff and have a steady hand. I used a fabric and spray glue so it was necessary.

Just my opinion but, you will have a cleaner, more factory like finish if the trim goes over the wrap.

My trim was painted by iND so I assume they took the black controller trim off to paint it and then glued it back on

a fellow M3post member thompsac25 wrapped my center console trim and it came out great.
if any of you guys want to have this done id def recommended asking him to do this for you. he had it done in a day, great guy to talk to and the charge for the job was surprisingly low, which included return shipping and materials.

^ Looks good! Matches the rest of the trim well with the clear coat.

Hi everyone,
I am currently wrapping mine (center console) but the ashtray is giving me a headache. How did you guys separate the aluminum piece on top of the ashtray? I don't want to cut the vinyl around, I don't think it would look pretty.
I guess I have to take the lid apart and I will find some sort of pin I have to release to split it.

I am surprised that you guys didn't think about wrapping the climate control and radio trim. These are the easiest to do.

I cut around mine. If you use a sharp knife it'll give a clean clean and you can tuck the edges under the aluminum piece. Refer to my photo earlier in this post. You can't tell even in person that the vinyl is cut around the piece. I did the same for the iDrive control trim instead of cutting the trim out and gluing it back in.

Yes, you'll have to split the lid open. You'll find the pins from the silver piece are melted to hold in place. You'll just need a drop of superglue on each pin to put it back together.

Opening the lid will also make it so you wrap the lid around and when you put it together, have a nice edge when the ashtray is open.

Can anyone of you who's already done a CF wrap on the center console, so a short video of how to remove the center console trim and then showing How you "wrapped" it?

Maybe one already exists... I'll do some googling.

Consensus is get the CF 1080 3M film? Or DINOC?
