iPhone 5 on 2011 M3

I just picked up a 2011 E92 M3 and was able to hook up the phone on the Bluetooth no prob... My question is regarding playing music through my phone. I use pandora and rhapsody a lot.

Is my only option to use the Y-cable? Or can I stream music through Bluetooth somehow??

When I plugged just the apple USB cable I get a message on the screen that says "device not supported"

I'm in the mobile app and can't do a search on the subject.

Thanks in advance.

If your car has the media combox then you can stream music via bluetooth if you don't want to use the cable.

Depends on the build date of your car. I believe if it's a post-July 2010 build(?) it will have combox. Mine is an October 2010 so it has it.

Actually combox started with Sept 2010 production...

What is the combox?
How do I know if I have it?

My car has premium, technology and cold weather package... So I would think that it has that right...

I think my car is June 2010 car

So does that mean no combox and y-cable is the only option?

Yes, unless you upgrade to the combox which folks have done. Do a search for vendors (including the tech) who can handle this.

With no combox there is no bluetooth streaming of music available so yes, y-cable is the only option...

You can always just go and look inside your trunk. It will be located under the carpet panel.

So we can install this unit? I have a 2010 and I'm not sure the built date. I recently upgraded to a iphone 5 and debating if I should buy a new Y cable. If bluetooth is an option, I would rather do that. How's the sound quality over bluetooth?

Well do the installations as well as sell the kits all the time.

Sound quality is very good in these cars.

Shoot me a PM if you need a price on a kit.

If you have it, it works REALLY great. You startup pandora, switch to CD/Bluetooth source, let it play. When you stop the car and get out, it pauses pandora on your phone so you're not wasting data. When you return, start up the car, it resumes and restarts streaming. Really a great implementation!

Just get the adapter and you can use the existing y-cable.

I just had a combox installed in my car about a month ago. Like yours, mine is a 2010 build even though its a 2011 car. I couldnt live without streaming or pandora.

Hit up Patryk @ Bimmertech. He can hook you up.

Just get a cheap bluetooth usb adapter for the center console. Works great. Get something similar to this:
