Anyone know how to trick I drive to watch DVD?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone know a mod or hack that would allow the I drive to allow me to watch my DVD while driving.

When im in Park mode, the video goes but when i shift into N or D, the video goes blank and tels me that its for safety that i am only allowed to watch it in Park.

Anyone know a way around this?

Thanks in advance

Ed Lin

I've never tried in my 08, perhaps the 09 are able to do this!

www.navtv.com

I believe this module would make it work!

So in the 09, you can watch DVD's? That is cool. Why does BMW not advertise this?

Hey,

this modul works (sorry it's only in German) with TV, DVD (also internal) and
Internet while driving.

http://cgi.ebay.de/TV-FREE-FREISCHAL...1%7C240%3A1318

some translations (efforts ):
Installation is simply plug between DVD connection, no affectation to on board
electronic, no recognition by BMW diagnostic system, compatible to new HDD
navi system

I've payed 119,- € ~ $160 ("Preis vorschlagen" = "price propose").
If you're interested, send an eMail or call them, they'll ship worldwide...

It's really easy - only demounting the CIC (HDD navi) unit.
That are only 3 screws behind the blendings (which are hold only by Clips)...

Gelsen. Do you mind doing a DIY on it?

I have no idea whats required to pull the HDD out.

So, you've done this mod already?

yes, it will - but 08 idrive does not play dvd's and has no internet access,
so it's only interesting with tv option or external dvd player

Does your car have a factory BMW TV tuner? I thought that Euro BMW's have this option. I thought I saw this on the UK web site. Do you need a TV tuner to make it work? I know my old e-46 had to have the BMW TV tuner installed to make the NAV screen work.

I've been meaning to test mine to see if it will play a DVD. I don't have the TV tuner (when would ever want to watch TV / DVD in the car anyway) so don't imagine I'll be able to watch DVDs.

Would be interesting to see if it works though.

No, my car does not have tv tuner.
In Germany it is an option by an extra charge of 1000 € ~ $1300 and IMHO
not worth the money.

You don't need tv tuner to make this modul work, like I wrote with 09 iDrive
internal movie/audio dvd and internet access works while driving with this modul.

With 08 iDrive this modul is not as much interesting without tv option 'cause
08 iDrive does not play dvd and does not has internet access...
