Tried to put a YouTube vid of a e46 up against a new type r with tune. Both had good tires. The e46 walked the type r. It was driven by a guy with no ability to use his legs either.

If you really had to ask this question, then sell the M3 as it is absolutely not the car for you... It's being wasted, let someone else actually enjoy and appreciate the car.

I'd like to see this race with an E9X M3 in the mix.

if you're even CONTEMPLATING a Civic Type R to replace your M3, then yes, it's time to move on. You must not be able to truly appreciate the charm of an E9X if the Civic Type R is a possible replacement. |

The two cars are extremely different and it just depends on what your needs are. The e92 is aging in every department except looks (I still think its one of the best looking cars) The Type R is a great all around vehicle. Surprisingly comfortable and can take it to the track on the weekends and set some ridiculous times. Low end power is much more usable on a daily commute. going back to back you definitely notice the power difference. Sound like based on your needs the Type R would be a perfect car for you. Although you'll miss that V8! I currently own both cars =]

Just to close on the "smokes an M3 on the track" statement...
Randy P turned a 1:44.22 at Laguna in the CTR. Compared to a 1:42.96 he did almost 10 years ago in the E92 M3. If you consider that the CTR is on modern tires, it's more fair to say the M3 smoked the CTR. That said, it's an impressive lap time. I've seen HPDE lap times of around 1:42 with a CTR that has a tune (+50 or so HP) and R-comps on YouTube so with a bit of tinkering, it can get pretty close. BTW, the new M5 ran in the 1:39's. Not bad for a 4000lb car. |

Why do you ask? I've driven the ring a couple laps in a rental car one day many years ago. Tracked my former 300ZXTT & NSX multiple times at Roebling & Carolina Motorsports Park. I even modded my GMC Syclone and tracked it, lol. Most recent was tracking a rental 458 & R8. Ironically, the 458 is what convinced me to get a DCT in my next car. Haven't been in many years due to kids and work though. Looking to get back out in the next year with the E92 M3 I purchased last year once I get the bearings done, new set of tires and put on some new pads (my Rotora pads actually faded on the street). Also looking for a new exhaust since I expect the Akra will be too much sound for Laguna. It took me 6 months to get the car smog worthy which was a serious delay but it takes time to get everything prepped.

I think you misread my comment or are mixing up comments? I'm not sure where I said I don't track and I only stated some facts regarding lap times, not a preference for the CTR. I also posted in this thread, "Would I trade my M for a CTR? ...NO." I do appreciate the CTR for what it is though.

255/35/19 & 275/35/19? I'm looking at 265/30/19 & 295/30/19 Cup2's on 9.5/10.5 wheels. I thought I remember someone posting the 275's were dangerous as they were a Merc spec but they only found out after they had problems?

I've been a Type R hater since the first time seeing it, but this might be the first one I've seen in black. Maybe its a good angle, but I have to say, the black seems to tone down and tie together the eccentric styling. Delete the rear wing and I could get used to this. Good looking cars, thanks for sharing!

CTR is great as long as you don't take it to the track.
It has a lot of problems with overheating and you need a lot of cooling modifications to keep it from overheating on track. But on the street, it should be an entertaining car. The ride is also supposed to be very comfortable.

Geez, if you only know the labor rate here in San Francisco area. $120 an hour is dirt cheap! $2500-3000 is the going rate around here.
