Winter mats

Obviously, winter weather is an issue for us Canadians. I've tried the Weathertech Digital Floormats instead of going with the OEM winter mats, and they're fantastic. Great fit, great protection for the M. I personally haven't tried the OEM winter mats, but they look pretty wimpy compared to these. Do yourself and your M a favour and get these!

They look like this:

I also just happen to end up with two sets of mats (for my one car). So the second set is up for grabs. I have them posted in the FS section of the forum, but I figured I'd share them with my fellow Canadians here as well.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=478318

Here's how they look in my car, with the Weathertech logos peeled off and replaced with M3 logos (from eBay ~$13 each):

Hi Chowster,
my buddy just bought a set of the same mats for his 328i. He finds that they slide around a bit despite the super snug fit at the front.

He's considering some kind of velcro solution. Have you experienced similar winter mat creep?

+1. Noticed the same problem with my OEM winter mats. The ones posted by the OP look much nicer IMO. May have to look into this

I'm experiencing very minimal mat creep. However, since we're so anal as M owners, I was thinking about exactly the same simple solution. Glue a thin piece of Velcro on the weathertech mats so they'll stay put. I'll post again if I end up going this route.

Thanks. The M3 badges make the mats really stand out. I learned this from an older mat thread, so I can't take credit! My wife thought they were factory winter mats...

FREE VELCRO!

I finally went to a huge fabric store and purchased some velcro to anchor down the mats. I was having very minor slippage, but enough to warrant some extra work on my part. Cut some velcro squares, and used a hot glue gun to affix them to the bottom of the Weathertech mats. Works really nicely.

I purchased a 12" strip, thinking that I would anchor down both front mats. However, only my driver's side has velcro anchors on the floor. Oops. So I have 2 extra velcro squares up for grabs. FREE.

First PM with your address, and I'll mail them to you.

Kind offer Will. I'm waiting until next fall to winterize my future M as it will be late April by the time it gets back from ED.

The WeatherTech Mats are great and this is my first winter with them except I've realised that there is an awful of salt stains on the right side of the acceleration pedal.

I don't think the mats for the M3 are W'Techs best effort . I've had other cars and always used W'Tech and I've never had problems with Salt stains before.

The factory BMW winter mats are thicker than those and when installed properly (with the velcro tabs), do not move around at all.

I have them on my X5 and my m3.

Thicker yes. Wider, no.

I'm in a toss up as to which way I will go.

Do you mean on the floor to the right of the gas pedal? Wow, I guess I've forgotten how much snow/salt/grime gets brought into the car in Ontario! I agree, the mat is slightly shallow at that corner to accommodate the pedal.

Yes you are right, in Ontario we get a lot of salt and boy does it show up on the right side of the gas pedal.

I have them too but I feel otherwise. At first I felt they were a bit smaller, but when I looked around the edges it looked pretty snug.

As for the mats themselves, my only complaints is the gas pedal area and how my foot slips around and makes squeaking noise. That's one thing the OEM mats with carpet does well.

My complaint is the same as Bunnn. I wish there was some carpeted or frictioned patch where my heel rests to curb this. Maybe I'll glue a piece of thin carpet or velcro to mimick the OEM mat!

So I'm stating to plan what I should do.

My buddy has the same weather tech mats in his 328i and although the fit looks great, the materials feels really cheap to me.

I love the monster mats in my wife's GTi and my previous Audi. The weather tech mats to me seem to be made of the same left over material used to make North American car dashboards.

Any updates from everyone on this thread?

Cheers

James

Hey James,

I've had the weathertech mats out since April, but they'll be going back in very shortly. With your reminder, maybe even tonight! They did well for me for the short 4 months that I had them in, with good puddle control. Longevity and wear hasn't been an issue yet. They did slip around a little, but I solved that with the additional of velcro to match the OEM circles.

Never seen the monster mats - any pics?
W.
