I think it is a DSS that does away with the guibo and will add NVH.

DSS? Are you saying it is not good for our cars? I was always under the impression a Carbon Drive shaft even without a tune you can get significant gains. Is this true or false?

The engine will rev faster and be more responsive because there is less rotational mass, but this comes at the expense of NVH.

I've heard they cause vibration from a pretty reputable source.

Any gains from a carbon DS over an aluminum DS will be minimal. A 1 piece DS might feel a little better, though. The problem with the one VAC sells is that as far as I know, it is made by the Drive Shaft Shop and DSS does not use the stock rubber guibo at the trans end. This increased NVH, some say objectionably. I have the DSS chromolly one-piece on my E36M3 and hate it but the car is turbo and breaks stock shafts. There was another company selling E9xM3 one piece shafts in carbon fiber with guibo but they are no longer available. BMW used a one-piece CF shaft with guibo on the current M3 but is reportedly going back to aluminum.

I heard in later productions of the E9x M3 era they replaced the rubber guibo with a metal one. I'm not too concern of NVH as long as its bearable. Still interested in what kinda gains would the CF driveshaft reap...

The increased inertia due to the larger radius probably cancels out the loss of mass and then some.

yes it does. if you're planning on doing it, you'll find a lot of talk about replacing the guibo and transmission mounts. you likely won't need to. my guibo looked brand new, as did my dct mounts. this was at about 52,000 miles and a dozen track days. it would have been a waste.

I've already replaced the guibo and mounts as well. My center U-Joint is starting to make noise so Im gonna be replacing it sooner than later and I always upgrade when I can. NVH isn't an issue if you noticed any change.

i don't think it is a recall, but check with your service advisor about a service bulletin regarding the center u-joint. my girlfriend's 335d had it... i'll try to dig it up, i can't remember if it concerned m3's or not.

Well my driveshaft was replaced by BMW completely because of a rear clunking noise.
Was close to $3000 out of warranty.

Holy shit, you could have taken a vacation road trip down here and I would have done it for $300.

You could have put in a CF DS instead of another stock one or maybe bought a used one from deansbimmer.

Damn that's an insane ripoff. Glad you didnt have to pay for it. A genuine BMW driveshaft costs around $800 + shipping from getbmwparts.com and should take an actual shop no more than 4-5 hours to do.
