When is the first maintenance?

I've had my car for almost half a year now. Just wondering when should I bring in for the maintenance? I hear from before something about changing transmission fluid etc true?

The first maintenance should be around 1200 miles (2000km?). That should be oil, diff, and in the 6MT tranny fluid. After that service, it should be ~15k miles usually for the next oil change.

When you turn the car on, is should flash by on one of the screens on the dash the miles before your next service.

wow, my salesman couldn't stop stressing that i need my first service at 1200miles...infact, it should say on your car when you start it up (on the bottom little screen next to the odometer). you should be fine tho as long as you didnt throw the pedal down or use the M button within the first 5500miles.

Exceeding RPM's should only be problem if done before the 1200 mile service

Call them and find out. There's no way (I don't think) that the car didn't warn you.

Very strange indeed.

Tomorrow I'll go ask them again but if they still say it's not needed how should I prove them wrong? Is it in thr manual? Should I bring it?

And you have never brought it in? Many people get 1200 done a bit early, some as early as 600-700, though that is not as good of an idea. However, the car definitely should have complained after 1200. I suspect the dealer could override that and set it to the first 15k, but I would hope they would be in a deep pile with BMW if they are reported for it.

Did you try powering on your car? Mine shows how long to the next service in the gauge cluster when I turn it on.

The car will NOT warn you for the 2000km first service. It has to be known and I am pretty sure it is in the reference manual. There is also a sticker on the windshield that defines the driving parameters for the first 2000kms and 5000kms. If your dealer never said anything about the 2000km service then it's almost criminal and I would recommend never set foot again in that place.

I was told that the original engine oil is a special oil that collects better metal residues through the break-in period and that oil should not be kept for a long period. If that is true then driving on it for 12000kms is certainly not advisable.

That must be different than in the US. My car started warning me at 700mi that service was due in 500mi. Every time I started the car it reminded me.

My car did warn me (and it's Canadian). I believe the dealer programs the first service into the car to prompt the warning. Having said that, between the warning sticker on the window, the manual, this forum, etc, it would be hard to miss.

To the OP, maybe the dealer did not properly set up the car on delivery?

I got the first service light at 770 miles (with conservative break-in).
