I'm in a slot right now while waiting for this horrid insurance battle to come to close over my totaled E90M. I really can't figure out what I want to do.

I've got a line a fun LSB E46M that is really tickling my fancy, but I'm concerned I won't have the same integration I had with my E90. It's also a bit of a track car, and I know that I'll be spending some short sprints on the street which may get old quick.

I've thought about another E90M, but I had a very close emotional relationship with my "current" one, that I feel I'll always think of the replacement as a step child... not to mention I would have to start over with maintenance items that I had performed to make mine bullet proof.

I'm in a glass case of emotion right now. What to get??

I'm sure you could find another E90 on here that has all of the maintenance records if you wait for the right seller. I think a lot of sellers have taken very good care of their M3's, while others may not have.

The E46 M3 can never rival the E9X M3 in my opinion, but to each their own.

N55 M2 < E92 M3 in every way minus the iDrive.

Now M2 comp may be a different story..

If I was to have my E92 totaled, I would probably get another. I've learned so much about the car from working on it that I'd have no problem starting over cleaning up a new one. It would actually be fun to start over again. I like tinkering and working on my cars and trucks. I don't want to but I would without fear or uncertainty. I really like this package as a whole and I love that it makes you drive it hard!

I’ve had a 2005 M5 (worst car ever), 2 X5s, 2015 stingray, 2017 Z06, 2011 1M, 2016 M3, 2018 Jeep Trackhawk, and 3 e92 M3s. I’ve had other vehicles as well but they aren’t as relavent.

For the past month I’ve been trying to keep myself away from ordering an M2 Competition because I HATED the 2016 M3. For some reason I think i’m going to find it more pleasurable then the current M3/4 but deep down I know that nothing is going to beat any of the e92s I’ve had. The only car I feel you will find as enjoyable for the price is another e9x. I’m also looking at a few V8 Vantage’s and am hoping that it will give me what I miss from the e92s If I end up with one.

***Edit*** I also day dream about what is next in the realm of the e92 for the price range up to $100k. The body is starting to look dated but I’m not feeling the styling of many of the new cars in my price range these days either. IDK what to do...V8 Vantage and mod it to give it more power may be my only answer.
Don't want to divert the thread but 2005 M5 - worst car, ever? Really?

Didn't it come with the legendary S85 V10?

N55 sucks and it is unreliable at higher mileage. Been there done that, there's no replacement for the S65.

1. Keep the M3. There is nothing as rewarding and satisfying to drive at that price point. I would pick up a cheap DD, then keep the M3 nice.

2. I had a 17 M2 manual. Great car to drive around town, short wheelbase made the car feel agile. But it could not touch the 5k to 8k sound and excitement rush of the M3. Its fun at low rev's. It is quick, but just not visceral like the M3. You are going super fast, but its quiet. What fun is that?

3. I had a couple 991 911's, fantastic precise performance cars. But I missed the excitement of a high reving V8 or V10.

4. I would look at an R8 V8 as a replacement. High revving V8, manual trans, super car looks, handles awesome. Low running costs, low deprecation. I considered picking up a E92 M to have as well, but since the engines are so similar in character I decided to pass.

I have a $100k budget for a sports car. I loved the S65 / S85. Hated my 15 M3, M2 was too dull. Considered the vantage, but its very "one dimensional". Sounds good, but too much of a GT car. I had a 991.1 GTS but missed a high revving V8.

Picked up a 14 R8 V8 for $85k then added some goodies to it. Best car decision I've made in a long long time. Added a Kline race exhaust, sounds incredible. Amazing what kind of noise gasoline and air can make

Some cool cars out there for $100k. For us enthusiasts to pick from. The E90 M3 is the best value of them all, with the near exotic V8.

But for me, I need to get up to $150k budget so I can finally get a 458 I've always wanted. In the meantime, the R8 is pretty friggin awesome honestly

Sweet car, but I heard that the Audi V8 is terribly unreliable higher mileage.
I'd like an R8 but it had to be the V10.

Can you share some more thoughts on the 991 S/GTS that you've had? I have an E90 M3 and I feel the 991's calling my name. I'm looking for a 2+2 and nothing else seems to be in the same league. Thanks!

I heard all the Audi 4.2L V8's that are similar to the one in the R8 (S4, RS5) have some sort of timing chain reliability issue at higher mileage..

The V10 in the M5 had vano and SMG reliability issues that can be very costly.. they have the same rod bearing issues as well except not as overly hyped up as in the S65

I think the e9x is the most reliable M3 high reving v8 manufactured if that's important to you. There is no real other substitute for this..

If I'm ever forced to get a newer car, I would consider Lexus GS F. After e92 m3, I don't think I can do without a NA V8. That plus Lexus reliability.

I used to have a b7 RS4 and a 2017 chevy ss.. those two were close but still.. man the e92 is awesome. Cant beat it.

I know there are so many reviews stating the gt350 is better but this is imho after test driving one I still would go with my e92. It did not feel as refined or stable at high speeds. The m3 also feels faster to me. Only thing I could think is the gt350 i test drove was not maintained as it has 17k miles on it. I loved the sound of it at start up but it did not win me over!

I wanted to say more about that chevy ss. I had an auto. I have heard the manuals are almost as good as the old m5's. Honestly that car was pretty sweet. I put an intake on mine also and it sounded so good. I am not a chevy guy at all but if you can find a manual SS and want a decent sized sedan over the e90... oooo it is close. I would chose a DCT E90 over the auto SS... but manual vs manual... it's close. That Chevy Ss was pretty sweet. Wife likes Bimmers tho so i am sticking with mine. Checkthem out if you ever have time.

LOVE every second of my decision. I happened to find a >10k mile car with p31, OEM LSD as well..

RC-F has me interested due to NA V8 but I'm sure it is no M3. Happy with my S65.

I just picked up a Lexus GS-F, although not as raw as the E90 or as fast as any modern M5. I do find it to be a the closest thing to the E90 M3 that I owned, minus the 6MT.

Nice! I am thinking if doing the same if I can't find a clean e90 (currently have e92). Only thing I'm worried is it would feel too big.

Tesla Model 3 Performance.

That's my choice. Maybe not as exciting as the R8 , but it's half the price and is faster stock around any track around here.. the other choices offered are all good too btw, not saying anyone is wrong here
