Help with M3 decision

Hi all,

I have been thinking about possibly upgrading to a E92 M3, I have booked a test drive etc but would like to know a few other things such as tax costs for 2007-2011 years (if different) real life MPG, service costs and insurance average figures (I have a completely clean license)

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Real world (calculated) is 23.2 mpg over 6000+ miles.
Insurance is approx £700 (39yr old, 7yr NCB, garaged in reasonable postcode, no claims or points)
Road tax is about £400/yr
I've not had to service it yet so can't comment.

Thanks for the reply,

Sounds very reasonable thats only 4-5 MPG less than my 335i, everything else pretty much the same according to those figures.

I've come from a 335i Coupe to a manual M3, the 335i gave me 29 mpg and the M3 22 mpg, the 335i OBC showed also exactly the right MPG as I was getting, however the M3 is about 3 MPG optimistic. Still a lot better than I was expecting.

For me it's not the M3's MPG but the tank range which could do with being longer.

Garage List
Between 20-23 MPG (covered 32K miles) with mainly motorway driving.

Road Tax: £435

Servicing:

Oil Service at 15K £200 + VAT (cheaper if you supply your own oil).

Service at 31K £800 + VAT (cheaper if you supply your own oil). This service also includes Microfilter, Spark plugs, intake silencer filter, rear axle diff oil and gearbox oil. Car feels much better after this service

Insurance - Really depends on your NCD, clean licence, postcode. Budget upto £1K

Tyres: Not cheap ... looking at £300+ and budget for winter set if you go for that.

If you're not already on the way to the dealer, make sure it's a long test drive, coming from a 335i the M3 doesn't always impress straight away.

I'll second that, I've gone with LV, they were only £65 extra over the 335i and the call centre speaks the Queens, albeit with a scous accent. “You alright Lar?”

I found Aviva via Adrian Flux were the cheapest like-for-like but try all the usual such as: LV, Direct Line, RSA, Aviva etc and brokers also. My price increase was also a little bit for than a 335i.

Comparethemarket came back with £338 for my M3 through Endsleigh - Last year I paid £398 for a new 335i. Age and location make a huge differance

I have now gone with Aviva miles cheaper than anyone else, I am just under 30 so most insurance company's wouldn't realistically insure me!! The thing is I am only paying £200 more now than I was on my 335i so bargain.

Also I went through the money supermarket website so as a new customer to Aviva I get £70.00 cash back too.

Great advice. These forums are brilliant.

Cheers.

I recently tried Aviva online, came back with over £1600!

Currently with Admiral (£650), just waiting to see what the renewal is at the end of this month.
