Tire Size on 18x9.5 + 18x10

Just picked up some new wheels 18x9.5+26 and 18x10+22 and now have to choose some tires. Which means asking people for answers since I can't make decisions on my own

Mostly driving on the street. I'd like to think I'll go to the track 1-2 times this year, but I might also wuss out and not go. A lot of folks seem to be going square on tires which would be 275/35R18 for these wheels. Could also go:

265/285
275/285
275/295 (only tire I found in 295/35 is Conti ExtremeContact DW)

I'll be running Eibach springs with no spacers, and am not supercharged or anything. I can go PSS in 275 square, 265/285, and 275/285 (unless anyone has a better idea). One nice thing with square is getting the full 30k tire warranty from Michelin...

What says the collective?

you could go square but not much point since cant rotate front to rear anyway due to 2 different wheels. i would say 265-285 combo probably.

Thanks. It'll be tough to pass up the beefiest combo (275/295); especially given that they're 25% cheaper than PSS and closest to OEM height. Of course, there's the whole pushing around extra rubber I don't need thing...and staying a bit shorter in height means less likely to rub.

I voted 275 / 285. As previously stated, there is no reason to run a square set when you can't rotate them anyway. I'm always for running the beefiest tires you can. If the PSS are less expensive then it's a not-brainer to get them (great tires). You may need some camber to run the 275 in the front. If you have KW coil-overs you will also need a 5mm spacer in the front to clear the helper spring.

You thinking camber like camber plates or within range of oem adjustability? PSS are unfortunately substantially more expensive but hey, tires are the only thing touching the road.

No coil-overs for now - just Eibachs.

You can pull the camber pins in the front and achieve the camber you will need. "Need" might not be the right word as you may not need the camber with your offset and it depends which tire you choose. I had 275mm AD08's (very wide tire) on et 22 wheels and Eibach springs which required the camber for looks and to eliminate rubbing. I do know that you will absolutely be able to make 275's fit in the front.

I thought that 265/35 and 285/35 were closest to stock diameter and front/rear difference (for traction control purposes) on 18 inch wheels? I am planning on buying those sizes in the spring for my 18 x 9.5 and 10.5 wheels.

The stock PS2 245/40-18 has a diameter of 25.7". Most 265/35-18s have a diameter of 25.3". Another option is a 255/40-18 which has a diameter of 26.0".

Thanks. Always a bummer that there's not really a way to try before you buy with tires (though with enough forethought I guess it shouldn't be necessary).

I've seen a bit about tramlining with wider front tires. In your experience, for a car that's a DD, how bad is it? Are we asking too much of the stock power steering system? Also, I assume your rubbing was on the outside edge of the tire and camber brought the tops in to avoid? Assuming your wheels were 9.5", ET 26 should be a bit farther in already?

You do get more tramlining with wider front tires but I have personnally never seen that as an issue. The extra grip in the front more than offsets any minor tramlining IMO.

You are correct - I added camber because the tires were rubbing on the outside edge of the front fender. The tire / wheel also looked odd because the tire was oriented equal to or beyond the fender edge on the top (at least it had the illusion that it did). Your wheel offset of 26mm will push your front wheels 4mm more inboard and Yokohama ADO8's aren't available in 275/35 so any tire you choose will run narrower. I have 275/35 Michelin PSS on 18 x 9.5 wheels and they fit wonderfully IMO. You may not need to adjust camber in your situation. I would do a test fit and make your camber decision after that. What I do know is that 275's will fit in front and the extra grip will be welcomed.
