Best street tires not named Michelin PSS
I was planning on getting the Michelin PSS, but my local shops are having a lot of trouble sourcing Michelin PSS for my rear wheels. I figured I'd see if there was any other tire you guys suggest.
I have ZCP wheels and I've looked for both the OEM setup and one size larger. One of the shops said they spoke to Michelin and they said it was back-ordered 5-8weeks. OEM 245/35R19 265/35R19 Wider 255/35R19 275/35R19 All suggestions are welcome. I haven't ruled out just ordering them from Tire Rack, but my usual local shops won't install them unless they sell them.

lol, then order away on tirerack and find yourself an indy that will mount those tires on for you =D
Besides Michelin PSS, Continental ExtremeContact DW is a nice comfortable choice. Great in wet and rain, last a tad bit longer than the PSS and a bit more civilized for day to day driving. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 have been getting really good reviews as well. Great A/S tire that is super close to dedicated summer tires. If you're willing to go more hardcore there are also Bridgestone RE-11, RE-71R, AD08R etc. Good Luck!

To be frank I actually liked the Continental Sportcontact 5Ps better than my Mich PSS. I was running GTS sizes on my 2013 M3 and had 255/35/19 and 285/30/19 on the car. You can't get Mich PSS in the 285/30/19 size non RunFlat. I have tried Nitto Invos, Toyo T1S and the Conti5Ps in the GTS sizes and I loved the 5Ps. It was in this order..
1. Conti 5Ps 2. Toyo T1S 3. Nitto Invo (OK street tire) I now moved on to 19X10 and 19X11 with 275/30/19 and 295/30/19 Mich PSS, would have gone with the Conti 5Ps but not available in this size combo. Dave

Continental DW, cheaper too. Just not if you plan on tracking them hard.

Was just getting ready to post a similar thread. I have been waiting for a few weeks for PSS for my M235i and the estimated delivery date just got pushed back another month, so I am going to go with another tire.
The tire that was recommended to me as the closest to the PSS was the Brigestone S04 Pole Position. I do not have any experience with Bridgestone tires. The problem I have with them is that they are 3 pounds heavier than the PSS per tire. I am also considering the Continental DW, and now that I have read the post by Dave above the Conti 5Ps. I am very familiar with the DW (and they are also a couple hundred less than the PSS), but I have never heard of the 5Ps. The 5Ps are just a few bucks more expensive than the PSS, but they are on sale now and would be several hundred more expensive normally (which makes me feel like I'm getting a deal). Also the DW and 5Ps are similar in weight to the PSS. Right now I am leaning toward the 5Ps. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the DW and the 5Ps and why they are $200 more expensive. Are the 5ps the replacement to the DW, or are they just a better Max performance summer tire both offered by Continental? Thanks for any help guys! Edit: I would like to add that I do not want to run an extreme summer tire due to tread wear concerns. |

Unless you are driving in rain all the time I would go with S04. The PSS is lighter than anything out there I've seen.

For Savage:
Have you checked our installers list? There may be some willing shops nearby. http://www.tirerack.com/content/tirerack/desktop/en/deliver_installation.html As far as alternatives, pretty much all of the above that posters mentioned are good. AD08, RE11, and RE71R are more hardcore dry performance with less emphasis on wet. The S04 and Conti DW are aiming to balance wet and dry grip similarly to the PSS. I saw the Conti 5P got a mention, and is a very strong contender but is not available in the sizes you are targeting. Story of its life. If that tire had been more broadly available, I think it could have been very popular. Speaking of which, the Yokohama Advan Sport V105 would be a great substitute, but even I don't have the rear sizes in stock.

I have a pair of nearly brand new Continental ExtremeContact DW tires for sale. However, they're 265/35-19 in size--perhaps not exactly what you might want.

Ben, thanks for the feedback! You were also pretty helpful when I got my winter setup from you guys! I am considering going the Tire Rack route if I decide to stick to the PSS, but I appreciate everyone's suggestions for alternatives. Looks like I have a bit more homework to do. I am probably going to avoid the hardcore setups, as I still need to deal with New England weather.

Michellin A/S3 are performing way better than I could imagine.
More comfortable, quieter, and better wet performance than the PSS.

Hold out for the best which are PSS. Tirerack has a website list (and ratings) of their local installers in your area. Tirerack can ship them directly to your chosen installer. If you live in a state that does not have a physical Tire Rack warehouse, you will not be charged sales tax either. |

Well I have talked to Ben at the Tire Rack who posted above, and I am 99% decided on the Conti SC5's above. This has been a difficult choice as normally the only summer tire I would consider buying is the PSS.
I narrowed it down to the Bridgestone S-04 Pole Position and the SC5's. I have had the Conti DWS tires before and liked them a lot for what they were, but I have never had Bridgestone tires. I have read very good things about both tires as far as grip, wet performance, etc. The thing that bothered me about the Bridgestone tires was that they were three pounds heavier per tire than the PSS. The SC5's are actually one pound lighter than the PSS making them four pounds lighter than the Bridgestone tires. Also the rear tread width of the SC5's is .2 inches wider than the PSS and .4 inches wider than the Bridgestones. I would also like to thank Ben for being very helpful in asking any questions I had, and also for calling me back very quickly. I have bought many sets of tires from the tire rack and their customer service has always been great, as have all of their recommended installers. I was actually considering the A/S 3's. I have them on my M3 right now, and they are honestly better than most summer tires I have used! One reason I didnt is that my m235i came with all seasons, and I know if I went with A/S 3's I would not take them off in the winter and would end up having to buy another set before my lease was over rather than using the terrible OEM tires that came with the car during the winter. |

I did do a search on tirerack.com and it does appear that they do not have the SC5's in the Comp Package size. One thing Ben mentioned to me is that the thought the SC5's would be a lot more popular if it weren't for the limited sizing. They do, however, have in stock the PSS for the comp package wheels. I will need to order some new tires for my M3 Comp Package in the next month or so, and I will only go with PSS for that car and will be ordering through the tire rack as I do for all my tire purchases. I would recommend giving Ben a call at the number in his signature! |

I run the PSS on my 08M3 in NH without issue and snows on other wheels in winter. I will liky try another tire next time but not sure what. Have run Conti DW on my E36M3 and just put them on my wife's 08 535xit, but would not call them serious performance tires.
