So far I'm the only one that just wants the backing plates. I will be taking the hose out after each event so I don't need a clean duct solution just the plates. Preferably ones that screw into the existing points for the dust shield.

It looks like the splitters block some of the black under tray, thats why I asked the question. Also are your "backing" plates similar to the ones in the link posted above?

They will not be carbon, and the wheel bearing will not need to be removed in order to install it.

Definitely. If woefully underbraked Hondas can do it (it being race pace for an hour) with OE brakes, good pads and ducting, so can an M3.

but what might the dust shields be made of and will it be up to the heat generated on a brake intensive track?

Excellent news! Cheaper, easier to install, and no performance compromise. Sounds like a win/win

If you want to fix your fade issue get some ss lines and a good brake fluid. You will be pleasantly surprised at how much this will make a difference.

The idea, just like with the ABS ducts, is that a fortune spent savings onces of weight is not where your money should be spent.

I would definitely go SS in this situation, aluminum could get brittle from thermal cycling at the mounting bosses, and I'm sure you're not planning on using casting for something that is otherwise so thin? SS will too but it's a lot stronger and more ductile to begin with, 304 would probably work and like you said you're talking ounces here.

I agree with your approach on the backing plates. The weight savings would be diminimus. Reliability/durability is paramount in this application, as I would presume all of these kits would be purchased with the intent of using them hard.

Would there be a chance to put some sort of mesh to prevent debris/garbage from going in the ducts? I think there's quite a few of us here that use their car as dual-duty transport. I would hate to suck in garbage on a regular basis.
