1200 mile DCT service.....
Hi,
My car goes in on Monday for its 1200 mile service.....i have read some horror stories about dealerships changing the gearbox oil on DCT cars resulting in gearbox failure in some cases and generally not knowing how to conduct an M3 1200 mile service. I have searched the forum but cannot find a definative bulletin for DCT cars on exactly what should and should not be done to the car on the service ( i know the DCT fluid/oil should not be changed) If anyone has a link to or knows exactly what should be done to a DCT car on the 1200 mile service i would appreciate it as i do not trust the dealership to get it right and would like to know the info myself to ensure i get no headaches! My thoughts at the moment are: 1. No DCT oil change 2. Engine oil change 3. LSD oil change???? Many thanks.

There is no fluid change on the DCT. Its in the new manual, should be in the one in your car. Make sure they do not.
They do change the differential fluid, as per the manual. The 2011's no longer need the anti-grinding sound additive. I just had my 1200 mile done yesterday. I walked through it with the service manager both before and after with the manual.

Oh yeah oil filter as well, checked fluids (actually had to add washer fluid, guess it was empty from the factory). My sheet is in my car or I'd list everything, but those are the big items.

They also download the computer data to see if any codes popped and reset your oil change computer. Washed the car for me too.

Did they say why the friction modifier isn't necessary? Most dealers seem to have not been using the modifier anyway unless, per the Service Information Bulletin, the customer subsequently complained of differential noise. In your case it sounds like someone specifically said it wasn't necessary. Just curious.

Guys, I just had a "transmission malfunction" after my 1200 mile service and almost got stranded. The car has started working normally again though. What should I do?

Take it in to the dealer. Codes should have been stored in the memory. I've had 2 separate transmission malfunctions in the past. The car drove fine after a re-start. Just got my software updated yesterday, so hopefully that fixed the problem.
