Who has done the road to Hana in a M3?

Just had a chance to drive the road to Hana (Maui) - wow, what a treat for a driver!!! Too bad it was in a rental car.

Any M3 owners in Maui?!?

You must have gone super early or super late. The traffic is bad during peak hours. I do agree it's a beautiful drive and the smoothie stand in the beginning is not bad.

We turned around half way through as it just goes on and on and on with essentially the same scenery. I recommend for first timers to Hawaii but if you get out and explore Maui or the other islands skip it.

But, can you imagine being able to block off that road and then tearing it up in your M3?

I did it in a rental Mercedes SLC. It was pretty fun. Was impressed with the locals hauling around those corners at 20 mph faster than me in their junker pickup trucks with their tools, barrels and dog hanging on in the bed

I found out later that you can rent replica Porsche 356's in Maui. I be doing that next time

For some reason, there are a ton of V8 Mustangs here, so the rumble of the V8 was sweet (compared to our rental Kia).

We left around 11 am as we made the trip to the 10,000 ft peak that morning.

By the time we left Hana, it was 3 pm

So, the scenery changes drastically after Hana, as you are on the dry side of the island. Outside of some horse ranchos and wild goats, it is pristine uninhibited land - absolutely breathtaking.

And yes, I kept imagining what that ride would have been in a M3.

I saw the 356 - beautiful car!!! We were following each other for about an hour.

You can also rent a z4 - which should be fun!!!

Same here. The difference is that my younger sister threw up on me.

I've done it again with the wifey earlier this year, and we had traffic the whole way there. Was a beautiful view however.

My cousin (ex-E92 M3 owner) just did this drive yesterday too, albeit in a Mustang rental. He only had great things to say!

From what I understand a lot of folks get car sick on this road and I can see why. We are headed to Kauai in October and can't wait to the the Jurassic Park scenery!

Was just on that road last Thursday. The whole time I was driving my Nissan Sentra (in Sport mode of course) I was thinking man this would be a great road for the M3.

But then, with all of the tour buses that kept jumping the line, and the light rain shower that caused muddy flooding on the one lane bridges it made me glad that my M3 was at home in the garage.

I did it twice each time continuing round the island. Loved the tropical garden along the way, the secluded black sand beach (all volcanic stone) and the red sand beach just before arriving, the Hannah public beaches and had a swimm in an ydillic cold waterfall. The road goes up and down constantly, which is what makes people sick.

I’ve done it in a rental car. The whole time on that road I was thinking to myself what’s cost to bring my own car

Btw, if you want to make the whole route (after Hana), rental companies will not come to get you if your car breaks down or crashes.

Just got back from 7 nights in Maui, my 2nd trip to Maui. We did the road to Hana. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!!! A waste of a gorgeous day in paradise spent in the car. Wish I could take my day back.

Maui is perfection though.

lol those who did not have fun must not have taken the whole route around the backside of the island. Its a real adventure, dirt roads with cliffs, 2way traffic on 1 lane road, livestock, fruit growing on the side of the road...
