Am i waiting too long for an oil change?
Hey everyone,
I am just being a little OCD here and need a quick opinion. I am changing my rod bearings on May 18th with Deansbimmer, however my last oil change was done on May 17th of 2017. Since then i drove almost 6k miles. It will be 300 mile trip to go see Deansbimmer and i will probably drive another 500 before the trip(probably less actually). Do you guys think i should just go ahead and change oil now or push the car until i change bearings? The car is approaching 80k miles at this point. |

you will be just fine.
i did a 1,400 road trip and three track days immediately after doing rod bearings before my first oil change.

bmw says 15k or one year, so you're close. i personally wouldn't worry about it if you aren't going to be beating on it- only because you are about to do bearings and get fresh oil.

I'd leave the oil in there for now. Change it out sometime after you get those bearings replaced.

Well done OP, you clearly look after your S65. Touching 7k for a change can't possibly be anything your baby will notice. |

1 year and even 8k miles is nothing to worry about on an oil change before a rod bearing job I'd say.
Don't sweat it.

It's 24,000km/15,000mi OR 2 years, whichever comes first. However, there is the low-usage change interval (specified in a TSB) which says if you're not driving the car regularly, change it once a year regardless of mileage. This would apply to anyone who isn't DD'ing it, I'd say.

Nothing will prolly happen to most these cars with extending it out much further then what your timeframe is.
Some of us are neurotic (myself included) changing our oil every 5k miles (basically every 5 months for me) and we don't even track the car.

It's probably fine even if the commute is short. The TSB is likely targeted at people who are only using the car on weekends or never get things up to temp which leads to moisture buildup in the crankcase. If you get it out on the highway periodically I wouldn't sweat it.

Easiest way to tell if you're pouring out perfectly good oil is to just get a UOA and pay the extra $20 for TBN + TAN analysis. The plethora of reports shared on this site should make it fairly obvious that you can go longer than 5,000 miles in most cases.

Actually, I believe BE recommends an oil change 400 miles post Bearing Job to get the Assembly Lube out of the Oil. I just did it to be safe.
