Hesitation when jabbing throttle at idle quickly...
Hey guys, so my car runs perfectly so far except for a little odd behavior that my E39 M5 also exhibits.
I pulled into work yesterday and my co-worker wanted to hear the exhaust, so I jabbed the throttle real quick and the engine seems to stutter for a split second before revving up normally. If I don't jab the throttle super quickly, the car revs up fine, it's when I stab quickly from idle/neutral that the motor seems to hesitate a split second and then revs up. I noticed my E39 M5 does this as well. Does it have anything to do with the ITB's behavior? Anybody else have this behavior on their E9x M3s? Last edited by DanMpower; 06-02-2020 at 02:22 PM.. |

Yes. Exactly like your video. Do you have the Carly app and adapter? Do a diagnostic and see if any codes pop up. I'm almost certain it's one or both TA's. DIY and order from FCP euro. The DIY is not difficult and very satisfying. Especially knowing how much labor charges are for something like this. To me, removing the plenum and airbox/filter are the most time consuming. |

Yeah I'm not sure since I just recently purchased the car and it didn't include any service records besides those listed in Carfax, which doesn't list sparkplugs as being changed.

I just ordered two TAs and a full set of plugs, hopefully that will solve the issue. |

I would have recommended Jason @rebuild.org for TAs. Better to replace with his and not have to worry about them again. Cheaper than everywhere else too and lifetime warranty

That's exactly where I ordered from, well the US distributor for Jason, Mpower Motorsports.

I thought I didnt have any issue, but used the WD-40 when I was last in there and it's made such a difference - seems like the throttle response is so much better. Could save your (new) Throttle Actuators in the long term too. I noticed a difference mostly on gear changes and slipping the clutch at really low speed. |

A little update, changed the spark plugs and the hesitation is completely GONE. The engine revs super smooth and responsive. Thanks for the help guys.
I think the plugs were original. What do you guys think? |

Those have another 50k in them easily
I like how one of the suggestions was "change the throttle actuators" when basic maintenance hadn't been addressed. Never change, internet

i just had this a few days ago. i wasn't quick jabbing but i was on the throttle like normal driving then give it a bit more (like when you are overtaking), then the car started to hesitate/stutter a little bit (0.5s) and then keep on climbing.
I guess i should check spark plugs and air filter first. what do u guys think?
