this valve closes under acceleration?
That's my understanding. When the car is idling the throttle body butterflies are closed so the idle air valve needs to open so air can get into the engine for combustion. When you accelerate the idle air valve closes since the butterflies are now open.

iirc i did see an additional air hose on the idle control unit to let some amount of air pass by even when it's closed also.

So far i haven't been able to confirm anything besides the fact that the whistling goes away if i disconnect the idle air hose.

"the whistling goes away if i disconnect the idle air hose."

I had this issue in the past and it was the Intake Plenum. There was a hairline crack in it.

I had the techs at Active Autowerke take a look and that was the only location the sound seemed to come from during low rpms acceleration. Replaced and it was fixed!

I had a vacuum test done -- no leaks. Someone else suggested the seal between the exhaust and the engine. Not that either.

Sorry to revive old thread but up to what mileage is this covered by federal warranty? I have the same whistle on my 97k mile 2013 M3 Coupe. I live in California. Is this an emissions thing that is covered under California warranty?
