08 sedan, when the temp drops below minus 15 C, the clock and trip odometer go blank and one of the daytime running lights goes out. The car starts, but the key won't lock the doors. is it a battery problem?

I have a feeling you may have a slightly loose wire in your system ... The dealership should find it ... Have them check it out.

Think of temperature changes and coefficient of expansion ... Stuff does get loose if not properly tight ... Let us know what you find out.

The fellow on the assembly line may not have had a good breakfast on the day your car passed his station ...

Better get that fixed, I hear that it's going to drop to -30C soon. I used to live in The Peg. We just had a bout of -20's in Calgary and my car performed fine.

No bugs here though. Oh wait, I forgot about the mosquitoes in the summer. No malaria though, oh wait there's encephalitis. That's it, I'm moving south.

My guess would be that you're battery if you've never replaced it before. Battery life and so forth are varied depending on ambient temperatures. Batteries tend to discharge more quickly in the cold as the chemical reactions in batteries are slowed down when ambient temperatures are low.

I had a lot of friends who were stationed with the Army in the Alaska and they told me they had to get a battery heater and engine heater when temps started hitting -20 F (just shy of -30C for you non-imperial users.)

I do wonder with the battery in the back and really cold Winnipeg-like weather, if the battery takes an extra beating. At least in the engine bay, a battery may catch a bit of heat from the engine to help it along.

Probably excess battery discharge. Did yours have a battery tender installed at PDI? My dad had taken his 335 in several times and all because the battery was low. They charged it up and sent him on his way. Try charging the battery and do this every night when it gets to be below about -15. Especially because of Winnipeg traffic (all stop and go) the battery never had a chance to really charge.

So before you run out and put in a new battery, try charging it consistently every night and see if that helps.
