BMW would save a ton of money not having to build those S85B50 engines that won't be used how they should be anyway...

--SARCASM--

They should just throw out a "BMW Yuppie" collection to the US market instead of the "BMW Individual" where you could buy all the greatest looks and biggest cars, such as M6 or 760iL, and with extensive exterior and interior options, and just throw the N52B30 straight six under the bonnet of every model

Haha, thanks for including the Sarcasm reminder. We wouldn't want any of the JK naysayers getting all fired up.

But in all seriousness, they should really do that...half of the dimwitted assholes on the road, are more likely to hurt themselves and others with the power that is given to them with the S85B50.

They should make the buyers take a performance driving test. And if they don't pass they get stuck with N52

Even the N52 is too good (and powerful) for most of these people who just buy the M models out of status value and don't have a clue how to drive a powerful car properly. One of my big fears is that the horsepower wars and constantly increasing power and torque of all manufacturers cars (especially when the wide switch to hydrogen powered engines will happen) will eventually lead to governments stepping in and regulating the industry in some way, because more and more people will be killing themselves and others on the roads by buying cars that they can't handle. That's why the industry should perhaps start regulating itself, like they did in Germany with the 250km/h top speed governor pact that was voluntary between German automakers, and aimed at the Green party communists from destroying the free speed autobahns. (Which they attempted to do many times in the 80s and early 90s - the top speed governor pact was an example of the industry regulating itself so that government wouldn't spoil things worse.)

For example, BMW should demand that every M BMW buyer take the driving classes before they get handed the car. It's always better for the industry to regulate itself, than with government regulation, which usually results in moronic laws, which might mean that soon all we can buy are just 200hp tops lawnmower engine equipped cars. (worst case scenario.) Seriously, this will be an issue, especially when hydrogen-powered engines hit the roads, because then even a "regular" 6-cylinder engine will be able to generate near-supercar levels of power and torque with relative ease.

Best regards,

Jussi

Any thoughts on the self-regulation of the industry as far as the power wars? Anyone?

Best regards,

Be patient man, folks will reply when it is worth it . My thoughts on required training: BMW should include, at no cost above that of the car, a day of performance and defensive driving training. This should be on ALL M vehicles. Obviously you can't make such a class required, just encourage it. It would definitely save lives. Insurance companies in the US should also give discounts for both performance and safety oriented classes.

Just wanted to pass on by the earlier jokes on the thread and get a new focus, so that's why I re-asked the question.

Your idea is a very good one, and the price of it can obviously easily be buried in the vehicles, and would probably save BMW a few lawsuits per each year. I don't know if their lawsuit-stats in the US are public stockholder knowledge, but there must be a bunch related to the high-performance vehicles.

Best regards,

Jussi

Position #1!

I just got on a wait list this afternoon at spot #1!! Cost me $1k, refundable, @ MSRP, in writing. I'm super jacked.

Had to head east one state from UTAH. Only one dealership in all of Utah and it was 40 people deep already. No thanks! What's the point?

Suggestion: do your homework and talk to as many dealers that you can. You can probably find a dealer willing to start a list with you at the top. That's what I did anyway.

There is no pricing for the E92 M3 yet, but if he won't let you reserve one. I would find another dealer.

Garage List
2008 BMW M3  [0.00]
2004 BMW M3  [0.00]
I put down a downpayment in March 2006, so about 10 months ago. I am #1 in Boulder, CO, and the dealer also told me I was #1 in Denver area (even though he mentioned something like all people get the first car at the same time....). Anywyas, I checked in with the dealer and the list is deep in the double digits now..

Good day everyone

Guys,
Are dealers in your areas already accepting orders for the new M3? I thought I read somewhere that we will get a glimpse of the M3 Concept Car at next year's Paris Auto Show. Or is it that BMW is feeling the heat from RS4 so reacting to the competition by releasing the M3 much sooner.

Dealers are only accepting pre-orders at this point. Orders cannot be accepted unless the dealer has a build allocation. Pre-orders are for models not yet in production. Usually there is a $500 or $1,000 refundable deposit. I would only go to a dealer the puts "at MSRP" in writing.
