Actually, this is for the US...but according to this: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho....php?p=2095292 there will be changes to the Canadian ED program very soon, if not already.

P.S. I hope you don't mind turb, but I just quoted you in that link, so as to hear people comments on that information.
Changes coming would not surprise me. As I said the latest info the dealer had was Oct 2006. And yes it could be that ED deliveries are suspended. If the dealer has not done one recently they might not know until they started to process one. I thought that the suspension had been lifted after the new centre in Munich opened.

10. Marine insurance- $268 for 3 series. $612 for 6 & 7 series
11. Ocean freight- $270 for 3 series. $319 for 6 & 7 series.
12. Canadian brokerage & dock charges- $200
13. Halifax terminal & loading charges- $75
14. Agriculture Canada inspection- $43
15. Rail transport from Halifax- $800
18. Payable at Customs-Import duty- 6.1%, excise tax- $100 & GST.

So I was right. The difference is mostly the import duty. The above charges [$250 + $240 + $268 + $270 + $200 + $75 + $43 + $800 + (.061 * $65,595)} add up to $6,147.30 and are charged later.

So $65,595 + $6,147.30 = $71,742.30. Pretty close to the $71,300 list price especially allowing for these costs being 2 years old.

The vehicle gets titled and plated in Germany and driven for up to one year, in which Canada does not charge the import duty. (There are extra German insurance and title charges which I have not included above). When it finally does come to Canada the shipping and customs charges and taxes get added. So the car ends up costing the same and the difference is largely the 6.1% import duty which gets levied later.

Canadian Options

I was at my local dealer on Saturday and I was told that comfort access (option 322) is a standard feature, but the universal garage door opener (option 319) is not available (yet?). Can someone please confirm this? Thanks.

No universal garage door opener on mine. I was expecting that it was standard.

Strange....it's not standard, yet not an option.

I saw my car for the 1st time today and it also does not have the garage door opener I thought as it was a sunroof car,it would. That is a disapointment as every vehicle we had for years has it including my wifes 335.I looked at the M3 that were at Parkview and none of them had the opener.Strange!
