Coolant Temp

I have a 2011 M3 S65 with a DCT code of 2B59 (Coolant Thermostat Monitoring).

It looks as if I need to change the Thermostat. The OBDII ECT (Engine Coolant Temp) is 160 F (71 C). The Thermostat is set point is 79 C (174 F). Seems like the minimum coolant temp should equal the Thermostat activation temp ~175 F.

This code showed up less than 1 year ago and I changed the Thermostat and sensor. It's hard to believe that I need to replace the Thermostat so soon. Can thermostats fail so soon? Could it be something else?

Thanks,

Randy

Is your oil temp normal? Does your fan run a lot?
