I would take $46K in a heart beat for my '08. Don't buy an Infiniti (this is coming from a lifetime Nissan guy) or an Audi S5 (it's a nightmare to own).

Well things got weirder. After getting a totaled e-mail, three hours later I got this...

We have updated the estimated amount of damage on your vehicle. You do not need to call or take any action. Your adjuster has already made the necessary arrangements with the repair facility.

Estimated Cost: $36316.45 Estimated Repair Time: 30 Days

My adjuster has not responded to my e-mail yet trying to get an explanation.

Nice! New engine I would imagine.

Are you familiar with the repair facility? Are you entitled to pick your own repair facility?

Good luck!

Nice, so they're gonna do the engine. I suppose its better for them to replace than pay off.

Has to be a computer generated email that automatically goes out once the repair estimate is in. With more than $36k in damages on a 2008 car there is no way that is not totaled! That's almost more than 50% of the cost of a brand new car much less a four year old car.

New Engine... Fawk that... ill take it..

i guess dealer opted out for a new engine instead of salvaging the car.. sounds like a nice deal to me... although 46k for an 08 i would have jump on it and get a 2011 or 2010... that just me though.. good luck.

Well right after I posted I got a call from the Adjuster confirming car is totaled. he also has submitted the missed options to the appraisal company and once they reappraise (should up the value a few bucks) it goes back to the manager (who he said already approved the first appraisal).

Should no more in a day or two.

I was gonna say, ~78% repair cost is definitely totaled. Congrats on the outcome OP, hopefully the payout is fair! I wouldn't want my car back after it had been so extensively disassembled and reassembled.

Looks as if Geico is coming through on this one. I'm sort of surprised ...

Got the final Total Loss Settlement Explanation from geico. They will pay me 46K plus sales tax to settle. Pays off my loan and I should get a check for the difference on Monday. Will see the car tomorrow to pay final tribute plus pick up all of my stuff left in the car. Anyone no how to get nav dvd out if no battery power?

Just read the entire thread. Amazing journey with all this. I have my 2011M3 coupe ( prod. 4/11) bought it in 2/12 and I love driving it everyday to work. I would have gone crazy trying to sort this. I also am a business owner and it seems that u were very patient thru-out this ordeal, and that turned out positive in ur favor. You will be able to now purchase a CPO M3 knowing its in better condition versus having the engine replaced and having that in your mind when u drive it as a DD or just wait for the new M3 or M4 to come and perhaps be one of the first production cars out. I like that a little better. But could not wait that long without having at least an M car until then. Good luck with everything and hope all is well going forward.

Yes, but they said that flood cars do not qualify for salvage retention.

Car goes on auction block in a month

Some saga, but overall probably the best outcome for you. Now you get to go car shopping!

Well after spending days looking, I almost bought a 2010 S5. Dealer asked $45,997, I went as high as $44,600 (plus they wanted an $895 dealer fee). They said no so I walked.

Ended up buying a 2009 650i, black on black, loaded coupe.

I have a bunch of parts leftover from the M3, check out this thread:
