Not for nothing, but this thread is going to get interesting as some
reputable engine shops / guys have advised against sleeving the s65......

I will be interested to see where the discussion goes.

Good luck.

Cheers,

Gintani has done sleeved S65's already. Tightie's stage 3 is a sleeved motor.

Very interested to see results. Good luck with the project!

Also - how many miles on the engine before this was done? Do you have any pics of the internals when they tore it down? I think the main bearings are what most will be interested to see.

why not?? There's not alternative to a high boost application due to the coated cylinder walls. Where's the proof that "some guys" advised against it.

Sure there is, I used "drop in" LC pistions made by the same company that makes the stock pistons, in my VT3. Car makes roughly 618whp SAE and 630WHP STD and does not burn oil as some built motors do, it runs 11-12 psi.

11-12 psi is not a high-boost application. For a low compression/high boost (over 20lbs) I would def sleeve the motor

Agreed. 11-12 psi is normal for other applications..mustangs, vettes, Porsches. Maybe he's aiming for 1000hp!!!!

Never did you state a psi amount, until now, no one knows if you can even run 20psi reliably on a sleeved block and you stated there was no other option to sleeving, but there is. Gintani has ran I believe more than 15psi and the heads started to lift, so 20 psi might be a bit optimistic, but would love to see someone try and succeed.

I honestly don't know the pros and cons of sleeving, my buddy Josh (Tightie) runs a Gintani Stage 3 (sleeved block) at the same boost I'm running, I have not heard anything new on cars that are running more boost, so right now that's a pretty high psi level in relation everything else available. Now compared to the # you just posted, agreed it's a lot lower, lol.

12psi is almost double the amount of boost you can run safely on 91 octane over the stock block, so it's not a low boost application compared to what we have so far. FWIW this setup can run 14-15psi, right now probably not wise to go higher because of the DCT transmission, I'm sure the 6MT will be able to handle much more. Just letting you know there's other options to run higher boost.

It's certainly not normal for a 12:1 compression motor, and so if you want to run higher boost over stock, there's another option besides going sleeved, my only point. But 20psi, yeah that's a just a tad higher, lol.

No, just stroker and some other mods to extract the most NA power you can. It's built for hill-climbing.

Nothing wrong with a sleeved block; zero problems. It actually will hold better for forced intake systems, as long as you have the proper piston/ring combination.

For sure.

The only thing that is a little different here than the sleeves I'm use to seeing (Subarus mainly) is how the sleeves intersect and are not the same thickness the whole way around.

Darton sleeves are probably the best. They can pretty much make any sleeve. Pretty good stuff.
