PNs for non-EDC ZCP* struts:

Left front: 31312284011
Right front: 31312284012
Rears x2: 33522284015

* I don't believe you can purchase ZCP without EDC in the US. These PNs are for non-EDC versions of the Edition and JDM M3s, whose EDC-equipped counterparts share the same struts as those on ZCP cars. So while they may not be "non-EDC ZCP struts" per se (simply because you can't order ZCP without EDC), they should be what you're looking for.

aajami: Would you mind getting an actual height measurement on flat ground please.

I need the height from the base of a 19" rim to the fender edge on all 4 wheels.

I'll try to do it this week, if I can get a hold of a tape measure that is.

By "base of the rim", do you mean the middle of the center cap, or the lowermost edge of the wheel?

I mean from the udge of the 19" rim at the bottom. It should be around 24" or 600mm.

All 4 would be good so I can get an average

But isn't the KW OEM now with the GTS?

The EDC included? No. But I do know that Tisher offers an M3 suspension retrofit kit. So while you will not be able to get Electronic Dampening Control on your vehicle, you will get the standard M3 suspension, which is by itself already very good. Here are some links.

Great work! Nice to know that the Competition Package is a notable improvement over the standard suspension!

I love it. It's the perfect compromise really.

My previous ride was an E46 M3 with PSS-9s.

Worst.

Compromise.

Ever.

Ride quality went from bad to worse. On anything but glass smooth roads, the lack of suspension travel was a serious liability.

The new chassis (with EDC, in my case) sorts out 96% of the pavement out there better than the E46 with stock suspension, or aftermarket.

Compliance is a big deal. But so is stance. I'm just on the other side of the fence right now.

I like your choice.

To the OP

are you saying that the ZCP package cars have a different strut/shock than the non ZCP cars?
I always thought that the springs could be different due to the reduced height, but there would not be a difference in the strut/shock as that would be attributed to the EDC programing that came on the ZCp cars.
Guess I learn something today.
Thanks

Yeah, the ZCP cars come with different struts than non-ZCP cars.

Nice car and an inspirational gutsy upgrade!

- For questions on the drive signals to the shocks (between the EDC control module and the shock) could you recommend anybody to speak to that was involved in your project?

- Forgive me but I'm not 100% clear on your start situation shock wise, but I do like to better understand this:

Your US M3 came with OEM regular EDC option, but then how are the non EDC shocks related?

or

Without EDC but with EDC control module? Is this the state of a JDM M3? Imported?

or

Else?

Neither. My USDM M3 came with stock EDC shocks, which I upgraded to USDM ZCP EDC shocks. I had EDC before the retrofit, and I retained it after the retrofit.

MY08+ JDM shocks (EDC) are the same shocks as MY10 M3 Edition shocks, and MY11+ ZCP shocks. MY08+ JDM M3s also come with non-EDC shocks, and I believe those are the same shocks now being used on the 1M.

Regarding signals between the EDC control module and the struts themselves, your best bet would be to PM rldzhao and technic, our forum's suspension and electronics gurus, respectively.

On EDC retrofitting, probably some more original questions (no answers found through forum search or Google so far):
1 Can you confirm how all EDC shocks have their settings changed?: by a top mounted setting motor (electro-mechnical) or via direct drive (electronics internal to the shocks)?
For the interface to the shock units:
2. Do you know what the electrical interface is between the shock unit and the EDC control module?
- How many electrical contacts: 2, more? does anyone have an image of the connector and/or socket?
- Is the signal analog variable with damper setting represented by voltage level (Vmin=0?, Vmax=??, Imax=??) or a DC supply (V=?, Imax=?) with damper setting selected via digital pulse coded?
- Are either analog / digital drive signals mapped against the user selectable settings?
- Are there any indications that more than 3 damper settings (4 with ZCP version) are supported?

3. Can you confirm that for E9X EDC, without electrical connection (or V=0, R=very high) the damper setting is equal to the hardest user selectable setting? (I believe this is common due to safety concerns)

4. Is the OEM manufacturer of the EDC shocks (ZCP and or regular) known?

Answers or pointers to sources for any of the above are greatly appreciated. Background is obviously a study into the retrofit of OEM EDC with a custom EDC drive module.

OP, personally I think its within the topic, but let me know if you consider this and I'll gladly move over
