Don't get me started on Flemming...

Long story short, and I can't speak for their techs, after multiple phone conversations with the owner (Co-owner, as he so graciously pointed out to me over the phone), I wouldn't trust this place with a job that requires this level of attention to detail.

I'm sure the techs are knowledgable but that guy left me with zero confidence that the job would be done correctly. It started when I asked if there was a labor-charge difference between using OEM bolts vs ARP (considering the tightenting proceedure). He said "no, we install all bolts the same way"...
Frank seems to trust him so that's good enough for me. Luther did my BBK install in early February and my supercharger install last November. No problems with either.

Luther does solid work and I would let him work on any of my vehicles. He did several difficult procedures on my 335 and was rock solid on all of them.

I'm not sure who you talked to at the shop, but Luther is the owner and is very knowledgeable.

He does have an employee that goes by some goofy nickname that talks too much.....might have been him.

Call back and talk to Luther.

I appreciate the feedback, guys.

Whoever I spoke with, his name wasn't Luther.

I've been calling around trying to get quotes, and out of all of the shops listed RRT is the only one that sounded like they were confident with the job.

RRT is top shelf. I've done the job 3 times myself back in Vegas (had a lift in my garage). It's pretty simple but you have to know wtf you are doing. Not for the timid. Experience is a huge plus when searching for someone to do the job.

Has anyone gotten their rod bearing replacement done lately? What is a fair price to pay?

IIRC you stated recently that it is a day and a half job, correct?

I wouldn't mind driving up to NJ, just need to workout the logistics.

yes, we would have you come up before close the day before (preferred around 3pm) we would get it on the lift and do an overnight oil drain. work on replacing bearings until about 3-4pm next day and then you can take her home! Just give me a buzz when you want to schedule it up!

The problem is across all models.

It looks like the newer M3s have more instances of rod bearing failure at lower mileages. The earlier M3s had softer bearings so even if it wore badly, it wouldn't cause engine failure as often. 08-10 bearings are more durable than later models.

RRT does know their stuff on BMWs, especially setting up race cars. Julie Wolf went from mid-pack to dominant in I-prepared after RRT set her car up. She's always been a great driver, but they transformed her car.

I agree with the 1.5 days for the job as you want to do the oil drain overnight. It sucks to have oil drip on you while you're doing any car work, let alone trying to concentrate on installing rod bearings and torquing things correctly.

It's supposed to be relatively nice this weekend so I'll be at the Hunt Valley C&C, you should bring your M up and chill.

Yes BUT they would charge arm & leg for their work. Sorry but I wont spend my hard earned money on an expensive shop like that. There are plenty of other shops in area with excellent experience in BMW and reasonable rates!

I was quoted around $2500 with motor mounts. Isn't the on-going rate like 2200-2700?
