looks good. Did you just use elbow grease or used a buffer?

I find the inside of the tips is a constant maintenance item. The exterior is easy to clean and maintain.

Let me know
Thanks! No, I didn't treat the tips with anything. I do a good bit of maintenance of them regularly when I wash my car though. That seems to keep them in great condition.

I actually prefer the look of the polished inner tips much more.

For the outer, I used elbow grease. For the inner, I used a wire brush drill bit that I used in conjunction with a power drill. Worked flawlessly!

Elbow grease and hard work is all you need to succeed. Good luck.

I'm thinking I should get the drill bit for the inside and order a pack of metal wool.

That's definitely a start. I guess it really depends on the look you are going for. There's definitely plenty of reading material out there regarding buffing and polishing. I opted to go a completely different route to give them a brush appearance

Nice work and looks good!

As FYI, if you have any pitting in the chrome, sandpaper works great. My chrome tips had a bit of pitting from previous owner neglect, and progressive grades of sandpaper worked great.

After a good wash and steel wool, I started off with some 400 grit sandpaer to work the metal down below the pitting. This took a little bit of elbow grease and some patience, but it worked well. Then I took some 600 grit to reduce the scratches from the 400, and then went to 1,000 grit. After the 1,000 I took a speed cone polisher and some rubbing compound and polished the tips to a nice, shiny chrome finish once again. Finished it off with some metal polish and then a coating of SiO2 and now they look like new again.

You can't sand chrome, it is plated and will disappear. The stock tips are stainless steel that can be sanded and polished and the MPE tips are titanium and can also be sanded and polished with success.

Oops, thanks. I meant stainless but had a brain fart.

This is bizzare. My MPE has about 85000 miles on it and still looks great, the insides are black, obviously, but the exterior still look the same as they did when new? They just get wiped down occasionally in conjunction with a car wash

EDIT: Derp, canada car, my car doesn't see road salt

If still off of the car I would drill out the Pop Rivets and use a buffing wheel.
